Stop defining swings by how they look in practice, but more by how they WORK in games.

Perfect mechanics can take years and even decades to develop, but the right approach (for YOU) will unlock the best of what you got RIGHT NOW.

Refinement of mechanics comes later in the player’s development . The majority of the hitting world is trying to refine hitter’s swings when they really need to develop their foundation… Their Mindset, Focus, & Approach at the plate.

How many more mechanical breakdowns do we need on social media for “content”… Before we start fixing the mental breakdowns hitters are having in the box? Focusing on the wrong breakdown.

Mindset sets your ceiling. If your mental game breaks down under pressure, it doesn’t matter how pretty your swing is. You will NEVER out-hit the limits of your mindset.

The best coaching system is not having a system at all. Everything depends. There are absolute principles and ideals. But everything depends. It’s the much harder way to coach.. It being HARD means you’re most likely on the right track.

By the time you realize your #1 swing problem is actually mental, you’re already behind. Better late than never. The best time to start is NOW.

You can’t “copy” a swing and choose NOT to copy the process that created the swing and call it the “same”.

@TewksHitting While it's not impossible to be great without watching, I've found that players who watch get better faster. They learn more quickly.

A huge part of playing the game is watching the game. Picking up details, nuances, tendencies. You can practice watching the game by watching games on TV.

Hitting is a skillset — a set of MULTIPLE skills. The SWING is ONE of those skills. The more the hitting world obsesses over the swing, the more hitters will struggle. To be the best hitter possible you MUST train ALL skills within the skillset of hitting.

When it comes to actually hitting in games — most of the hitting world knows MORE, but understands LESS.

Here’s a closer look at the recent change in Kyren Paris mechanics… Video #1 is a HR vs a 94 MPH outside fastball… Video #2 is a K against the same pitch…. Notice how much more closed Kyren was at initial toe strike as well as at contact on the HR….. This is caused by a change in his prehension and can only be fixed if he knows what he’s doing differently to cause it.

A swing without an approach is just a swing. A swing with an approach is called hitting.

Any numbskull can train to increase exit velocity in 4 weeks or more! Becoming a good hitter takes a minimum decade of consistent, high volume, and high quality work. Most of you are already too late.

@FatherOf4Lunas What’s even crazier to me is, the origin of the idea itself. Most likely this wasn’t an “in the moment” thing, it was planned, possibly even discussed w/ teammates and all thought it was a good idea. The fact that it was actually executed is mind blowing.

A truly elite coach understands that no single method is best for everyone-the best approach is the one that helps the athlete maximize their potential.
