Tiger Knee #TOKON_SPIDERMAN combo. 5L starter 55k+ Dmg, coast-to-coast, only 1 assist. (Almost) Builds back the 25 meter spent on the TK starter.
Most optimal route so far. #MARVELTōkon

It’s time for a follow up, because while I’ve enjoyed reading all the responses to this, the vast majority of people completely misunderstood the point. That’s largely on me for writing the original post in a bait-y way and doing most of the clarification in the replies.
1. I don’t think fighting games need to change, and I don’t care that avatar legends has long or hard combos.
I was never replying to complain about the existence of combos or the existence of the lab, however much people need to lab or not. The original post I was quoting was calling out people who don’t want to learn fighting games as lazy. That’s what I have a problem with.
I’ve spent thousands of hours learning musical instruments alone in my room. I did that because I found the process of improving fun. I’ve also spent hundreds of hours learning different fighting games over the years. I stopped doing that because I didn’t find the process of improving fun. You might find it fun, and that’s great! Keep doing that. But I don’t call you lazy for not wanting to improve at musical instruments. Meanwhile, the FGC makes not wanting to learn fighting games a character flaw, and insults people in droves for not taking the time to improve. They refuse to acknowledge that many people try fighting games, don’t have fun for one reason or another and then stop. The reality is, fighting games do not have mass appeal.
2. Fighting games do not have mass appeal, will never have mass appeal, and that’s okay, but you need to accept it.
Fighting games are a niche in gaming. Fortnite has mass appeal, LoL has mass appeal, shooters have mass appeal. Fighting games do not. And again, that’s okay. Grassroots is great! As many people have pointed out, devs have tried to increase the appeal of their fighting games and it often waters down and even sabotages the game’s success. Now if you can’t understand why fighting games don’t have mass appeal, here’s are some reasons to get you started:
- Most people don’t like 1v1’s
They’re high pressure, the blame is all on you, and not everyone is looking for that kind of experience when they play games for fun. If you thrive off that, you’re built different, congratulations! I used compete in tournaments and it was so stressful I stopped. I have massive respect for people who do.
- Most people want more social gaming experiences.
Can you lab with your friends? Sure. Can you play 1v1 or 2v2 with your friends? Sure. Is that the same as 6 stacking with 5 of your friends? Definitely not. Most people prefer team-oriented games games that prioritize cooperation between more than 1-2 people.
- Most people don’t like getting destroyed the instant they pick up the game.
I’m obviously not saying people should want to be instantly good when they buy the game, but the reality is, when someone is new to fighting games, they will get matched against people with fighting game experience. It happens all the time. They get stomped and don’t know how to get to a point where the game is fun. Tutorials, autocombos, and other stuff like that are great, but I don’t blame people who get turned off from a new game after going 0-10 their first time playing. Is that a skill issue? Sure. Doesn’t change anything.
3. The posts were never about me specifically
Tons of people tried to make this all about me, me complaining about my experience, me wishing fighting games were different. I’m not talking about me. I have gotten over the initial hump in fighting games before. I had hundreds of hours in DBFZ, for example. It’s not about me, it’s about the people who have tried to get over the initial jump and haven’t for one reason or another, and how that doesn’t instantly make them lazy. If you genuinely think that, you’re honestly an asshole with zero capability for empathy. Shoutout to the people who actually wanted to be helpful in the replies. The rest of you who called me slurs and other insults, do better 👍

The difference is, in every other game genre you can learn the game by playing the actual game, with friends even (imagine that!), not sitting alone in the lab for dozens of hours to commit combos to muscle memory so that you have even the slightest chance of not instantly losing

@TokonFighters Meh. I’ll stick to SF6. Traditional 1 on 1, looks cool but I don’t like how chaotic assists games are.
