This photo from 1902 shows French knife grinders. They would work on their stomachs in order to save their backs from being hunched all day. They were also encouraged to bring their dogs to work to keep them company and also act as mini heaters by having them rest on their owners’ legs. They were also called ventres jaunes (“yellow bellies” in English) because of the yellow dust that would be released from the grinding wheel.

@BlockClubCHI This reads like an op ed in the Tribune. While I agree that taxpayer funds should be used with more oversight and city committee meetings need to be open to the public, the tone of this makes me question the author’s credibility.

There's been a jump in young voter turnout from the February election the runoff, as of preliminary turnout data from 7 p.m. tonight. A 32% jump (5k more ballots cast) from the 18-24 age range and 24% jump (17k more ballots) from the 25-34 age range.
