When setting up a large scale farm, get ready to fight with ants; they are the most attracted predators of snails. It's an endless fight but sooner, you either win as a farmer or the nature soldiers win. Snails produce mucus as they move around the farm while the ants are attracted to these super nutritious mucus. Ants are foragers - they walk in pack and they do this with the help of pheromones. As a farmer, you need to device several natural ways of disrupting their pheromones and chase them far away from your snail pen. It is imperative to always extract ants using baiting method and bio-pesticides before you stock your snail farm. At all cost, avoid the use of synthetic chemicals on your farm; it will later lead to increasing mortality trend on your farm. Natural bio-pesticides like Neem solution, Siam solution, Pawpaw extract spray, Rabbit urine spray, CHASOFF ® etc can be applied weekly on the farm to discourage ants from dominating your farm. The Archachatina marginata specie grows pretty well than the other species of the Giant African Land snails. Unfortunately, they lay the least number of eggs; usually some 5-18 eggs at once. Their eggs are usually bigger as such, their baby snails are bigger too. Here are some sub-species of the AM: 1. Archachatina marginata suturalis - They lay a good number of eggs from 9 - 18 per clutch with a bigger shell size than the meat size. 2. Archachatina marginata Ovum - Their meat grows pretty fast & big amongst the AM species but they lay the least number of eggs. Usually 5-9 per clutch. 3. Archachatina marginata marginata - They have a finely meshed beautiful shell and lays egg between 8-15 per clutch.
