@otienowill Kra use the word LEVY to make it nice but it is just a tax, and there a principle of certainity in taxation which states that the use of tax should be certain not arbitrary and thus housing levy, fuel levy, railway levy etc are our taxes that are certain in use

Can we get an explanation as to why salaried Kenyans are compelled to contribute to the Housing Levy to construct houses on public land ; land held in trust for all citizens, only to be required to purchase these same houses from intermediaries who profit from public contributions, despite adding no value? What legal or policy justification exists for taxing citizens to build, then selling the same to them at a profit?

If I had 5 years as President of Kenya, my mandate would be simple: Create 7M direct jobs. 15M indirect jobs. End corruption. Lower taxes. Make the system work for ordinary Kenyans. No speeches. Just execution. Thread 🧵.

Regardless of your political leaning, the case of Rigathi Gachagua should worry every Kenyan because, at the very minimum, two basic principles of fairness must always be upheld, and in this case they were not. Audi alteram partem - hear the other side. No one should be condemned unheard. If a person is in hospital and unable to defend themselves, the fair thing is to wait. Why did the Senate have to rush when they could have given him even one extra day, as his lawyers requested? Nemo judex in causa sua - no one should judge their own cause. How could Wetangula and Kingi, both principals in Kenya Kwanza, be expected to appear neutral in a matter advanced by the very government they are part of? When these basic principles are ignored today, they will not protect any of us tomorrow.

Safina Party stands as the Vanguard of the Third Liberation. The Third Liberation is economic. It is the struggle to end odious and opaque debt that mortgages our children’s future. It is the restructuring of an economy designed to extract from the many to enrich the few.

It is untenable to shoulder a 1.5% housing levy, 2.75% SHIF deduction, 6% NSSF contribution, and a staggering 30-45% PAYE , only to still grapple with exorbitant school fees, skyrocketing rent, punitive fuel prices, and endless medical fundraisers because SHIF remains woefully inadequate.

Fred Matiang’i: There are things that I hear of, and I feel like I would collapse from anger and frustration. How can we go back to a time when we were saying police officers do not have fuel, and therefore, they cannot move around? The medical cover for the police was effective. I would cancel this one if I were president today and reinstate the one we had before so that officers feel well taken care of. There is over-ethnicization and over-politicization of deployment in the security sector. If the Inspector General is left to work on its own without political interference and all manner of nonsense, he will contain this business of goons #CitizenSundayLive

The operationalization of the Siriwo Rice Mill in Alego Usonga has been a major catalyst for regional growth, headlined by the establishment of the new 200 acre Lower Nzoia Block 12 Irrigation Scheme. This initiative has successfully generated over 2,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, effectively transforming Usonga Ward into a premier rice production belt. As a result, Siriwo Rice has successfully entered the commercial market and is now a staple on the shelves of various supermarkets and retail outlets across the region. The project’s infrastructure, which includes modern drying floors and expanded storage facilities, has specifically boosted employment for local youth while ensuring the highest standards of post harvest management. With a daily processing capacity of 2.5 tonnes, the modern mill is well positioned to maintain a steady supply chain, supported by a consistent flow of paddy from the surrounding irrigation blocks. In alignment with our agenda to enhance agricultural productivity and food security, we remain dedicated to prioritizing and allocating the necessary budgetary resources to sustain and expand this vital sector. #Nyalore

I have taken note of the sentencing of Julius Malema by the South African court. As leaders and believers in the African renaissance, this moment calls for sober reflection on the centrality of the rule of law, democratic accountability, and the strength of our institutions across the continent. Africa’s rebirth must be anchored on justice that is impartial, institutions that are independent, and leadership that remains accountable to the law regardless of status or political persuasion. At the same time, it is imperative that every citizen and political leader is guaranteed the full protection of due process and the right to exhaust all legal avenues available under the law. Our continent can only rise when justice is not selective, when democracy is protected, and when political differences are resolved within constitutional and peaceful frameworks. Kenya needs a renaissance Africa kills her son!

INCREASING FUEL PRICES IS A BURDEN ON KENYAS The latest fuel price increase is yet another heavy blow to ordinary Kenyans already struggling to make ends meet. Every rise at the pump doesn’t just affect motorists, it pushes up the cost of food, transport, and basic goods, making life even more unaffordable for millions. It is deeply frustrating that at a time when citizens are crying out for relief, the government continues to implement policies that only deepen the burden. Small businesses will suffer, workers will feel the pinch in their daily commutes, and families will be forced to stretch already thin budgets. Leadership should be about protecting the people, not pushing them further into hardship. Kenyans deserve transparency, accountability, and solutions that ease the cost of living, not decisions that worsen it. Enough is enough. The voices of the people must be heard.

FUEL PRICES: Practical proposals on how to deal with the Fuel Prices in Kenya. With a monthly consumption of approximately 400 Million litres, the government must reduce pump prices by at least the following amount. The proposal below is not a favour but asking the government to reinstate taxes and levies before they were added by this regime in 2023 (VAT) and Fuel Levy (2024). Reduce Ksh 7 from the fuel levy that was added in 2024. Reduce VAT by an additional 5 % immediately, which will be approximately Ksh 8 per litre. Grant an additional 5 Bn in subsidies from the Fuel Stabilisation Fund, which will be approximately Ksh 12 Per Litre. The fund already has more than the required amount and in excess of Ksh 20Bn. This should translate to a reduction by Ksh 7 8 12 = Ksh 27. This is not too much to ask. Kenyans are simply demanding the reduction of Levies and taxes to the level they were before 2023. We are African and Africa is our Business..

BATTERY OF LAWYERS TO DEFEND KENYANS. We have assembled a strong team of lawyers committed to defending Kenyans against injustice and oppression. For far too long, many Kenyans have been wrongly charged or unjustly detained for offences they did not commit; often simply because they lacked proper legal representation. Our team will always be within reach, ready to stand with and defend Kenyans across a wide range of matters. This includes supporting matatu drivers and boda boda riders facing harassment, students who have been unfairly suspended or expelled, and innocent Gen Zs charged simply for exercising their right to participate in maandamano. We are equally committed to offering pro bono legal services to vulnerable and marginalized groups, including victims of police brutality, survivors of gender-based violence, individuals facing unlawful evictions, and families seeking justice for their loved ones. Justice should never be a privilege for the few; it is a right for all.
