Aircraft recovery operations were successfully completed this afternoon. The recovery was carried out using an A-Star helicopter operated by Talon Helicopters, which lifted the aircraft directly from the crash site and transported it to a designated landing zone at the Incident Command Post approximately 2 kilometres away. The air-lift method was deliberately selected to avoid ground disturbance and protect the sensitive Burns Bog ecosystem. Metro Vancouver Emergency Services and Metro Vancouver Regional Parks staff worked closely with the Transportation Safety Board and the aircraft owner to ensure the recovery was carefully planned and executed with safety of responders and environmental protection as top priorities.

At approximately 10:40 HRS this morning, a small, lightweight aircraft made an emergency landing on the north side of Burns Bog near 80TH St in Delta due to a mechanical issue shortly after taking off from Boundary Bay Airport. The pilot, the sole occupant, sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital. Delta Fire, Delta Police, BCEHS, MVRD Emergency Services and MV Parks responded. Metro Vancouver is now in command of the incident, leading environmental protection, fuel spill containment and aircraft recovery planning. The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will be leading the investigation.

Stay away from rivers, shorelines, and trails near the North Shore Mountains. Conditions are dangerous: fast-moving water, flooding, and unstable banks pose life-threatening hazards. Stay safe and avoid these areas. metrovancouver.org/services/water…
