Hungary’s ̶m̶a̶f̶i̶a̶ ruling party, Fidesz, has suffered a major embarrassment after its heavily promoted talk show, “Harcosok órája” (“Hour of the Warriors”), collapsed in viewership once paid Facebook ads were banned across the EU. Even appearances by top ministers didn’t help. ▹ The show streamed live at 7:30 a.m. on weekdays, an inconvenient time for viewers. ▹ It was hosted on Németh’s personal Facebook page (≈70,000 followers) instead of the main Fidesz page (≈420,000). ▹ Major Fidesz pages, including Orbán’s 1.3 million-follower account and Szijjártó’s half-million-follower page, did not share the videos, leaving them with little organic reach. ▹ The content relied on boosted ads, not real engagement, so once those ads stopped, the audience vanished. The fallout leaves Fidesz in a dilemma: ▹ Contiunuing the show looks ridiculous given its minuscule audience. ▹ Cancelling it would publicly admit failure, something Fidesz almost never does. Adding to the intrigue, Facebook’s ad library now shows that new political ads promoting Németh’s local political posts are being paid for by Gábor Pintér, a local Fidesz district leader previously convicted of defamation. This suggests the campaign has quietly shifted focus from national propaganda to local political groundwork for the 2026 election, where Németh is expected to run. My grandad sadly passed away this morning. He’s been battling terminal cancer for the last few months, which has been really hard for my family. If some might have noticed I haven’t been as active on here and that’s why. My grandad was a brilliant and inspiring man. He was a great storyteller who lived through so much. He’d tell me about watching the Mighty Magyars, the times he would play gombfoci with Kocsis and Bozsik and about what life was like during communism in Hungary. We’d play football together, he taught me how to play tennis and inspired my love for sport. I remember the joy seeing Szoboszlai sign for Liverpool gave him. I’m really going to miss being able to talk to him about how Szoboszlai’s getting on at the club. It’s fitting that I share this photo. He’s standing in the top left, I’m in the middle with my brothers and my dad. I loved him a lot and I hope he is in a better place now. 🙏
