@AdelitaForAZ @SpeakerJohnson @AdelitaForAZ - Friendly question. When are we going to see you confront Speaker Johnson when he's in front of cameras? You, with your Bible in hand, loudly announcing, "Mr. Speaker, I'm ready to take the oath." If people are telling you it would be rude, they're wrong.

This you, @SpeakerJohnson? “Johnson this year started the August recess early to avoid a vote on the Epstein files and has since shuttered House business again as the government shutdown continues, despite not having to do so.” time.com/7327465/adelit…

@AdelitaForAZ Friendly question: Why aren't you in the Capitol chasing around Speaker Johnson whenever he appears? If he steps in front of cameras, you should be there, Bible in hand, announcing, "Mr. Speaker, I'm ready to be sworn in." God helps those who help themselves.

Jeffries: Republicans acted with greater urgency to swear in two right-wing members of congress to do in the American people   What is the delay with respect to Rep-Elect. Grijalva? Anything to do with Republicans continuing effort to hide the Epstein files? Inquiring minds want to know.

It’s been TWO WEEKS since @AdelitaForAZ was elected Two weeks of @SpeakerJohnson’s manufactured excuses and delay tactics. Two weeks of Southern Arizonans being DENIED representation in Congress. And when the public asks WHY: the Speaker can’t even answer for himself.

NEWSNATION: Democrats say you will not swear in Adelita Grijalva because you do not want her critical vote on the Epstein discharge petition. Why won't you swear her in? MIKE JOHNSON: They're becoming experts at distraction and red herrings. This has absolutely nothing to do about Epstein. This is a scheduling matter. As soon as the Democrats vote to reopen the government, we will get back to the regular order and session of Congress and that will be I'm sure among our first orders of business. NN: That makes sense, until we look back and see that there have been Republicans sworn in during pro forma sessions. Why should it be different for a Democrat? JOHNSON: There was a unique exception made when the two Florida representatives were sworn in. The only reason we did that is because they flew all their family and friends in for the ceremony NN: So if she flies in her family, would you guys do it? JOHNSON: Again, these are distractions

RAJU: Earlier this year you swore in 2 Republican members during a pro forma session. So why not swear in Adelita Grijalva who was elected 2 weeks ago? Does it have to do with her 218th signature on the Epstein discharge petition? MIKE JOHNSON: It has nothing to do with that at all. We will swear her in when everybody gets back RAJU: Why not now? JOHNSON: Uh -- we'll schedule it, I guess, as soon as she wants

@JJ_McCullough @Timodc The "Do Not Call List" policy initiative of the Bush administration. Even at the time, there was a lot of commentary about how rare it was as a universally popular policy action (2003).

My pal @Timodc asked a provocative but interesting question on one of his podcasts the other day: when, in recent history, has a government gained popularity for DOING something? Can you think of an example where a leader did a thing, people liked it, and he became more popular?

@AnnieGrayerCNN Biden's current deportation pace implies 1.1 million deportations over 4 years. So Trump's goal is status quo Biden.

@AlanLevinovitz Good post. My experience is that three factors push toward weight loss visiting Europe: 1. More walking 2. Smaller portion sizes 3. Time zone difference, so that you are asleep during part of time your body clock is set to eat.

Okay, I can't take it. How can people keep saying that RFK Jr. is the only politician to care about improving the American diet???!! Are you all trolling me? (Probably.) Obama(s). Bloomberg. The list goes on. They tried, again and again, to reduce the amount of sugar kids, and adults, consumed. They legislated healthier school lunches. And it...sort of worked. But not really. Why? Was it because they didn't consult with RFK Jr. "The First One to Care About Healthier Food"? No. It's because people rebelled! They don't like to be told what to eat by the government! And they don't like to change their eating habits. This isn't rocket science.

There's been a LOT about why RFK Jr is a terrible pick, but I want to focus on something that is very concerning to me, but no one seems to be mentioning. He appeals to a widespread, common-sense idea that the problem with our food is that it has "lots of artificial ingredients". Get the artificial ingredients out — no chemical additives! no food dyes! no high fructose corn syrup! — and our health problems magically resolve. This is 100% incorrect, and fundamentally misunderstands the problems with our food system.

This is very far from my area of expertise, but moving forward I hope we have a serious conversation about at what point bombarding voters with incessant TV ads (as a kind of campaign arms race) & text messages has diminishing returns, or can even alienate some gettable voters.

@matthewstoller NYT doesn't grasp that a PE firm wasn't "putting up $300 million of its own cash" to buy cheer company. It was putting up $300 million that included a large slug of TAXPAYER (public pension fund) money.
