Books of 2026: 10 IT'S NOT HER by Mary Kubica I think maybe thrillers are just not my jam. The reliance on a twist that is too easy to see coming and so often doesn't feel earned is disappointing.

Books of 2026: 9 A GOOD ANIMAL by Sara Maurer Set in a community about an hour from where I grew up. Felt very familiar. Realistic modern rural coming of age. Dug it.

Books of 2026: 1 How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu Not my usual thing, this dystopian sci-fi isn't character or even plot driven, but is compelling & breaks so many storytelling molds that I feel like my own work can't help but be changed in the wake of reading it.
