I know I am doing bad things to myself, but believe me, if it was in my power, I would have saved myself.

The Opposition’s latest witch-hunt against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is collapsing under the weight of facts. The entire edifice of allegations built around the Indian Express report rests on the insinuation that Mohan Yadav or his family benefitted from privileged access to information after he became Chief Minister. But even a cursory examination of the facts exposes how baseless and bereft of substance this campaign really is. First, the most crucial fact: the land holdings of the Chief Minister and his immediate family have not increased since he assumed office as Chief Minister. This alone demolishes the central narrative being peddled by his political opponents. Second, the Ujjain Master Plan and details of the city’s future infrastructure development were already in the public domain in May 2023, months before Mohan Yadav became Chief Minister in December 2023. If the roadmap for roads, urban expansion and infrastructure projects was publicly known, where is the question of any insider advantage accruing to the Chief Minister or anyone else after he took office? The glaring omission of these facts raises serious questions about the rigour and objectivity of the Indian Express report. Journalism demands evidence, context and diligence, not selective storytelling designed to create suspicion where none exists. What we are witnessing is not investigative journalism but a roving expedition in search of a scandal. The facts do not support the allegations. The timeline does not support the allegations. The public record does not support the allegations. The Opposition’s campaign appears less about accountability and more about maligning an OBC Chief Minister who has risen through democratic politics on the strength of public support. When facts are inconvenient, insinuation becomes the preferred weapon. Unfortunately for those driving this narrative, the facts refuse to cooperate. The allegations have generated headlines, but they have failed the test of evidence.
