Picked up 16 yr old & friend after sleepover. They were talking about politics (their friend is very MAGA). We started talking about tariffs, deportation, etc and my girl turned to her pal & said “see why I know so much? My mom.” And that might be my proudest mom moment ever.

So, I don't think I'm in my "keep fighting" phase. I think I'm in my, "I told you so" phase with every person I know who voted for Trump. Plus direct support to people to allow them to access reproductive care.

As an unabashedly lefty fucking parent, the fact that my kids’ biggest joy this Halloween was handing out candy and entertaining folks and making them have a good time is just… like… that’s the fucking mission right there.

3 families said our house was “the best house on the block” with one pre-teen saying “I knew this was a DESTINATION house from last year.”
And my boys just went to bed on CLOUD 9.

@RMFifthCircuit Starting with a Westlaw or Lexis search is often the worst approach because you get too much information. Practice guides exist for a reason.

This is good advice. Another way is to go talk to someone about it. Sometimes someone else sees something clearly you don’t.

Random Friday law-practice observation: I think young attorneys often feel like they’re spinning their wheels on a certain research project. A lot of times, the way out of this is to step away from Westlaw and go back to the facts. I’ve broken out of wheel-spinning many times by focusing on a set of facts I previously discounted or simply didn’t know, which then gives me a new, more fruitful, angle for the legal research. When you’re fresh out of law school—which doesn’t teach you much about building factual records—it’s easy to feel like Westlaw is your only tool. But in the real world, you can’t forget the tool of real-world facts.
