The jailing of journalists @MrLeevaaan and @MohamedShahzan both journalists for @AdhadhuMV marks another shameful chapter in the government’s attempt to intimidate the press and silence public dissent. It is also a clear indication of government interference in the judicial process. These attacks on press freedom and free expression will not succeed. We will never waver in defending the hard-won rights and freedoms guaranteed to every citizen under the Constitution.

On #WorldPressFreedomDay, I salute Maldivian journalists who report with integrity and resolve. A free press is vital to our young democracy. Under our administration, Maldives climbed from 120th to 72nd place in the global press freedom index, proof that commitment delivers results. Today, as newsrooms are raided, editors barred from travel, and draconian laws weaponized against the truth, journalists must stand firm with courage and conviction. We must not allow intimidation to win.

އަޅުގަނޑުގެ ދަރިފުޅު މީކާޢީލް އަހްމަދު ނަސީމް އެމްޑީޕީގެ ޗެއާޕާސަންގެ އިންތިޚާބަށް ކުރިމަތިލުމާ ގުޅިގެން، އިންތިޚާބުގެ ނަޒާހަތްތެރިކަން ދެމެހެއްޓުމަށްޓަކައި ޕާޓީގެ ހުރިހާ ރަސްމީ އަދި އިދާރީ މަސައްކަތުން އަޅުގަނޑު ވާނީ މި މަހުގެ 23 ގައި ދުރަށް ޖެހިފައެވެ. އަދި އަޅުގަނޑަކީ އެއްވެސް އިރަކު އިންތިހާބާ ބެހޭ ކޮމިޓީގެ މެންބަރެެއް ނޫނެވެ. އަދި ކޮމިޓީގެ ޓައިމްލައިން ނިންމުމުގެ ކުރިންވެސް އަޅުގަނޑުވާނީ މި މަސައްކަތުން ތަނާޒިލްވުމަށް ޗެއަރޕަރސަންއަށް އެދިފައެވެ. އަދި އަޅުގަނޑަކީ އެމްޑީޕީ ސެކްރެޓޭރިއެޓް އެކްސް އެކައުންޓްގެ އެކްސެސް އޮންނަ މީހެއްކަމަށް ނުވާތީ ފާއިތުވި ދޮޅު އަހަރު ތެރޭގައިވެސް އަޅުގަނޑު ސެކްރެޓޭރިއެޓް އެކައުންޓުން އެއްވެސް ޕޯސްޓެއް ކޮށްފަނުވާނެއެވެ. އިންތިޚާބެއްގެ އެންމެ ބޮޑު އަސާސަކީ ނުފޫޒުން އެއްކިބާވެފައިވާ، އިންސާފުވެރި މާހައުލެއް އޮތުމެވެ. އެހެންކަމުން، ޕާޓީގެ އާންމު މެންބަރުންގެ އިތުބާރު ދެމެހެއްޓުމަށާއި، މުޅި ޕާޓީގެ މަސްލަހަތަށްޓަކައި މިއީ ކޮންމެހެން ބޭނުންތެރި ކަމެއް ކަމުގައި އަޅުގަނޑު ދެކެމެވެ.

ހަގީގަތަކީ އަނިޔާވެެރިކަމުގެ މުގުރުން ފުނޑުކޮށްލެވޭ އެއްޗެއް ނޫނެވެ. އެއްވެސް ނޫސްވެރިއަކު ހައްގަށް ލޯނުމަރައްޗެވެ. ތެދުބަސް ދުލުން އިއްވުމުގައި ދެމިތިބެއްޗެވެ.

މިނިވަން ނޫސްވެރިކަމަށް ހުރަސްއެޅޭ ގޮތަށް @AdhadhuMV ނޫހުގެ އޮފީހަށް ފުލުހުން ވަދެ ހިންގި ރެއިޑާމެދު ނުހަނު ކަންބޮޑުވުން ފާޅުކުރަމެވެ. ފުލުހުންގެ މުއައްސަސާއަކީ ސިޔާސީ ނުފޫޒުން އެއްކިބާވެ، މިނިވަންކަމާއެކު މަސައްކަތްކުރާ ތަނަކަށް ވާންޖެހެއެވެ. ނަމަވެސް މިއަދު ފެންނަމުންދާ މަންޒަރުތަކުން އެކަން އެގޮތަށް ކުރިއަށްދާ ކަމަކަށް ނުބެލެވެއެވެ. މިއީ ޑިމޮކްރަސީގެ އަސާސްތަކާ ޚިލާފު، ކަންބޮޑުވާންޖެހޭ ކަމެކެވެ.

މަޑަވެލިން އެމް.ޑީ.ޕީ އާ އަލަށް ގުޅިވަޑައިގެންނެވި ހުރިހާ ބޭފުޅުންނަށް މަރުހަބާ ދަންނަވަން. ރަށުގެ ކުރިއެރުމާއި ތަރައްގީއަށް ތިޔަބޭފުޅުން ތި ކުރައްވާ އުންމީދުތައް ހަގީގަތަކަށް ހެދުމަށް އެމް.ޑީ.ޕީ ގެ ފުރިހަމަ އެއްބާރުލުމާއި އެހީތެރިކަން ލިބޭނެ ކަމާމެދު ޔަގީންކަން ބާއްވަވާ.
