MIA AFT 2026 REFRAMES ACCOUNTANTS AS "FINANCIAL ARCHITECTS" The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) today organised the third edition of the MIA Accounting & Financial Technology Showcase (MIA AFT) 2026, a one-stop platform for digital transformation solutions specially geared for the accountancy profession. MIA AFT gathered close to 2,000 delegates from finance and industry and 30 technology providers at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). “Our goal is to enhance productivity, strengthen resilience, and future-proof the profession in an era of rapid technological change,” said MIA President Puan Saniza Said at the opening. MIA AFT 2026 frames accountancy professionals as “Financial Architects of Impact: Humanising Digital Intelligence”, highlighting how accountants are evolving from adopting technology to adapting with it to drive performance and value creation. As organisations increasingly rely on Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation and advanced analytics, accountants play a critical role in translating complex data into actionable insights that strengthen decision-making and organisational resilience. “As accountants, we are architects of impact, helping to shape sustainable and resilient futures for our businesses, our communities and our nation,” said MIA Chief Executive Officer Mr G Shanmugam.

Second Members’ Engagement with the MIA President: Dialogue, Technical Updates and Networking Session - Northern Region Reaffirming its commitment to member engagement and professional excellence, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) convened its second Members’ Engagement with the President in Penang. The Northern Region—anchored by Penang’s industrial strength, Kedah and Perlis’ agricultural base, and a dynamic SME ecosystem—remains a vital economic corridor for Malaysia. The session provided an important platform for members to raise questions and gain insights on issues affecting the profession in the Northern Region, while enabling MIA to identify and discuss regional concerns that also resonate across the profession nationwide. Discussions centred on navigating the opportunities and challenges ahead to reshape and future-proof the profession, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, sustainability, talent availability and retention, professional development, members’ well-being, and stakeholder engagement. The programme featured an interactive dialogue and Q&A session with key MIA officials. Participating in the session were Puan Saniza Said, MIA President; En Ahmad Syahazan Yaacob, Vice President; Mr G Shanmugam, Chief Executive Officer; Mr Lim Huck Khiam, MIA Northern Region Chairman; MIA Management Committee members and Northern Region Committee Members. The engagement conveyed two key messages to the Northern accountancy fraternity: first, even as tools, technologies and business models evolve rapidly, the profession’s foundations of trust, integrity and professionalism remain strong and unwavering. Second, in this changing landscape, accountants serve as architects of sustainable and resilient futures for their businesses, communities and the nation.
