Despite his many accomplishments, including earning a PhD in Physics from MIT at the age of 25, McNair attributed his professional success to the training and support he received as a student at North Carolina A&T, an Historically Black College.

Today we remember Lake City native Ronald E. McNair, who perished on the Space Shuttle Challenger 35 years ago. McNair accomplished much during his short life, including becoming the second African American astronaut to fly in space at 33 years of age.

My sister died this morning. We just buried our father yesterday. This is the cruelest year that I’ve ever experienced.
