After I left OpenAI, I knew I wanted to be at a non-profit but wasn't sure whether to join or start one. Ultimately I started one bc [long story redacted] but RAND is one I considered + their pivot to taking AI seriously is a great thing for the world: x.com/ohlennart/stat…

@Fremond_ We're only hiring for people who'd be based in the US or Europe (incl UK). We're open to Americans who'd be based in Europe, if they already have ongoing right to work in the country they're in.

A project manager for each of the above teams: Strong interest in the team’s focuses and excellent operator/management skills. Background in the team’s focus areas is a bonus but not required. (Apply the same way researchers would.)

☯️ How can we make sure AI cyber capabilities boost defenders over attackers? We tackle this question in a new report from the Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS), “Asymmetry by Design.”

New paper on AI-enabled coups. When AI gets smarter than humans, a few leaders could direct insane amounts of cognitive labor towards seizing power. In the extreme, an autonomous AI military could be made secretly (or not so secretly!) loyal to one person. What can be done? 🧵

🧵The US just released new chip export controls to protect America’s AI edge and close loopholes being exploited by China. Includes new controls on high-bandwidth memory (HBM), new red flag guidance to address compliance concerns, additional controls on semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and 140 additions to the Entity List. 1/7

Yearly export control update just dropped, restricting high-bandwidth memory (HBM). HBM is critical for advanced AI accelerators, especially for deployment workloads with long context windows. The goal? Stop the PRC from equipping their AI accelerators with HBM. 1/

@HaydnBelfield It varies between the roles, locations, and experience levels. I'm open to giving rough indications to individuals based on their situations, if they need that to decide whether to apply. (Also note that the first application stage should take just ~2 hours.)
