IMO, this is a brilliant move by @CyclingCanada. Anything that removes/lowers barriers to entry for age category riders has to be a good thing. The only negative I can see from this is that those selected by Canada for the junior World's will have one fewer event specifically on their TT bike, but if other countries follow suit.....

Top riders are calling for gear restrictions to slow speeds and make racing safer. That may or may not help. The greater story is that they fear for their health/safety and want change. Here is an article on why they want speeds to drop and how races can be safer:

To put the bike lane debate in Toronto in perspective, more people commute by bike each day in Toronto than the entire population that lives in Barrie, Ontario. Or Kingston. Or Guelph. Or Sudbury. It's pretty rich that the Province wants to tell us how to get around our own city. If they don't like sitting in traffic when they get here, they should go fix regional transit. That is their mess - and the true culprit for congestion in the city. Anyone who understands physics knows that cyclists are part of the solution.

Is anyone maintaining a database of the crashes/injuries sustained in the peloton throughout the racing season ? @UCI_cycling or @cpacycling? Would be interesting to see trends, influencing factors, and differences between races and categories.

@alex_howes @michaelibarry @Roadman_Podcast @UCI_cycling @cpacycling Yes, we are. Every Monday, we watch every crash documented that week. It's still a moving in development. Because we want the data to be accurate. Currently, we have over 450 crashes so far. This is part of the SafeR project.

@Roadman_Podcast @alex_howes @UCI_cycling @cpacycling @HansenAdam It wouldn't be hard to do--the communique in the back of the daily race results usually has a fairly detailed list of crashes/injuries.
