I am joining my @USCPress colleagues over on Bluesky: @mjmcgandy.bsky.social. I will not post here again &, in departing, I express my appreciation for all of the good connections I made on Twitter & the many substantive conversations that were begun on this platform. #gratitude

More than one person has pointed to @cjdenial's "A Pedagogy of Kindness" on display at the @OUPress #POD2024 exhibit and quoted from the book: "Academia is not, by and large, a kind place." It's wonderful to hear from readers, & how the book resonates with campus reading groups!

@JohnFea1 So much for the fallible state of creatures…. One thing I always appreciated about Evangelicals was their frank understanding of fallenness; something Main Line Protestants lack. That quality of character and self-understanding has been lost.

What strikes me the most about MAGA evangelicals is their sense of certainty. They seem to KNOW which side God is on. Today they're giving "thanks to the Lord" for Trump's win. These people do not see through a glass darkly (1 Cor. 13:12). currentpub.com/2024/11/11/ele…

.@USCPress is exhibiting at this inspiring inaugural conference. Author Millicent Brown and photographer Cecil Williams presented, and lots of @UofSC friends attended and exhibited. Thanks for having us! #BlackHistory #allthingsSC

More detail here about the closure of Cincinnati’s library-aligned press—30% of titles were Open Access, and what UC calls “start-up funds” had been exhausted. Fine to experiment with new business models, but the insistence that these are more sustainable feels disingenuous.
Publishers Weekly@PublishersWkly

The University of Cincinnati Press will shut down operations on June 25 as the University of Cincinnati is withdrawing financial support. The press's scholarly list will transfer to the University of Minnesota and its regional interest list will transfer to Ohio State University. buff.ly/3UbbliE

Still more evidence that university-press books have a big impact, sometimes in unexpected and prominent places. Congrats to the team behind "Appalachian Reckoning," which Andrew acquired when we were at West Virginia.
Andrew Berzanskis@ABerzanskis

A goal is to one day have a book I acquired cited in a U.S. Supreme Court opinion. Until then, having a book cited in presidential campaign oppo research will do—the Trump campaign dossier on J.D. Vance highlights "Appalachian Reckoning: A Region Responds to Hillbilly Elegy."
