Day 10 of 10. A launch party it has been. We are getting very close to being ready for the ⁦@HillbrookSchool⁩ upper school to begin in 38 days. Today we worked on our classes, focusing on #competency-based learning, and dove into the nuts and bolts of operating a school.

The @HillbrookSchool expanding faculty are designing some amazing place-based, urban-based Immersives. These three-week classes will be using the city as our classroom. It has been great to use @unrulr as a way to document and share our journey. posts.unrulr.com/public/provabl…

Day 9 of 10. Defining course-specific and disciplinary competencies. Also having lots of fun! The ⁦@HillbrookSchool⁩ upper school team has made so much progress these two weeks. One more day to go before a short break!

Day 7 of 10. ⁦@HillbrookSchool⁩ middle school Ts are joining the expanding high school Ts to help build a programmatic bridge between the divisions and campuses. More importantly, we are taking time to build relationships across campuses.

Today’s training on Restorative Practices (RP) affirmed, through theory and practice, that RP is first and foremost about building a positive community (not discipline).

42 days until kids come, Week 2 and day 6 of 10 of the @HillbrookSchool upper school “launch party.” Today and tomorrow we are working with the Restorative Justice Training Institute.

Day 5 of 10 at the ⁦@HillbrookSchool⁩ high school “launch party.” Sharing our long-standing commitment to Diversity, Equity and inclusion and Justice in Action. Later we’ll be visiting the King library, which we’ll use as our research library. Afternoon— immersive planning!

UDL- “acknowledge, accept and celebrate that variability in student learners is the norm.”

Day 4 of 10 of the ⁦@HillbrookSchool⁩ upper school “Launch Party”– the morning was an orientation to faculty offices at ⁦@WeWork, a presentation on UDL, and time to create academic classes. Afternoon: continuation of building our trans disciplinary Immersive classes.

Learning is a relational act grounded in people, place and history. That is why at ⁦@HillbrookSchool⁩ high school we will be using the city as our classroom! Grateful for Mezcal owner, Adolfo, for sharing the story of the “Alebrijes” mural with us.

The ⁦@ScottCenterSE⁩ gets us using ⁦@unrulr⁩ to document journeys of learning

Great to hear from our ⁦@ScottCenterSE⁩ team whose questions— “What matters to you? What are you doing about it?”— guides our work as we build our Reach Beyond Immersives classes.

“You put language to what is in my heart for this city,” said one teacher to long-time trustee and @PizzaMyHeart owner Chuck Hammers after he told the story of how the @HillbrookSchool high school ended up in San Jose.

Day 3 of 10 in building the @HillbrookSchool high school is focused on building our 3-week Immersive classes using the city as a classroom. These trans disciplinary courses focused on social impact will prepare students to tackle complex problems with confidence and competence.
