Guards at an ICE jail put Efraín Romero de la Rosa in solitary confinement for 23 hours per day despite a diagnosis of schizophrenia. He is now dead after 21 days. The detention site is operated by the private prison company CoreCivic.

🚨NEW🚨 An immigrant died on Tuesday night inside the Stewart Detention Center, a privately-run ICE jail in Georgia. ICE has not released any information about the death. CoreCivic, the private company that runs the facility, confirmed his death to me this afternoon. Details are scarce, with CoreCivic's statement only saying Stewart staff found "an unresponsive individual inside of his living area" and that EMS arrived but the person died inside the detention center. A source told me the person may have died by suicide inside a solitary confinement cell. The source said the person who died may have been a Cuban man, in his 30s, who may have had some type of altercation with a guard on Sunday and was sent to solitary. "Liquid chemicals," may have played a role in his death, but it has not been confirmed. This is the 30th immigrant to die in ICE custody since October. Stewart has had a series of tragic suicides in the past decade. ICE take 10 year old boy to court to deport him—all alone without even a lawyer.
He urinated on himself and wet all his clothing—no one offered him a change for many hours.
"I was scared because it was my first time in court," he said.
Separated from his mom for 4 months now after she was detained during a traffic stop.
Wilfredo and his mother are originally from Venezuela with a pending asylum case.
ICE is now trying to deport him alone without legal representation to Ecuador—a country he's never been to and does not know a single person.
He is temporarily staying with his mom's former boss in Houston, Texas.
