There are a lot of really special guys in this program, and Cameron Gurney is absolutely one of them. The talent on the field speaks for itself, but what stands out even more is the kind of person he is off of it. The way he carries himself, the way he shows up for his teammates, and the respect he gives to the people around him says everything. Utah Baseball is better because of players like Cam; not just for what they do in the game, but for who they are beyond it. Cam, if you’re seeing this, we’re all so grateful you’re a Ute! So much love and appreciation for all you bring!

𝑮𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍 😇 𝘈 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘕𝘐𝘎𝘏𝘛𝘔𝘈𝘙𝘌! A few know by now and many have wondered why I wasn’t posting player video updates throughout the day on 𝕏, last Sunday from the @prepbaseball ProCase-West? 𝑆𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 𝑇𝑖𝑚𝑒 👇 Last weekend I asked my 23 year old daughter McKenzie if she wanted to go to Malibu (Pepperdine U) for our ProCase and give me some company for the trip, along with her dog 🐕 We arrived at the ballpark at 7:30am to help start setting up the event, and she drove around to various stores to get me snacks and drinks for the day. She came back and as she was getting out of my car, her dog was excited and wanted to jump out, so with the car running, she hopped out and when she shut the door, the dog jumped up against the door and its paws 🐾 hit the power lock button and locked itself in the car with it running. OH BOY! We now have to call campus security to come get the car unlocked 🔓 and it took about 20 minutes to get the car unlocked. McKenzie wanted to go back to the hotel, which was up and over the mountain behind the university in Agoura Hills. As we were getting ready to start the event, she called screaming and crying and my heart sunk! I could barely understand what she was saying, and at that time, a sheriff’s deputy took her phone, and said “Mr. Scholzen your daughter is okay and everyone else is as well, but McKenzie has been involved in a bad car accident!” I went into panic mode and needed to get to her as fast as I could, but didn’t have a vehicle and knew I needed to get there fast! I went to let one of our people know what had just happened and they said “GO!” I started walking around in a panic and one of the New York Yankees scouts, who is a good friend and former scouting teammate of mine back in the 2000’s with the Angels, noticed my mannerisms and came down to the dugout and asked if I was okay and was something wrong? I told him what had happened and he got on his phone and pulled up the map of the area on his phone to show me where she and her dog were located. One of our staff said “we’re using my car and let’s GO!” We drove 10 minutes away and found the area and pulled up to the scene of the accident, to see sheriff’s, the EMT’s and the fire department working the scene! I saw the car and was like, how the hell did she escape not being killed. I went up to McKenzie and gave her a hug as she was shaking, in shock and holding her dog. She had missed a stop sign and a car pulled out and she tried avoiding the car and was essentially t-boned and the impact spun the car like the t-cups at Disneyland and shot her into a light pole, creating the damage seen in the video below. When it rains it pours! If it wasn’t already nerve wracking about the locked car and her dog “Ozzy”, now she’s involved in a massive car accident! The impact should have triggered the “airbags”, but the airbags didn’t deploy… My car is totaled and now without a car, we need to rent another car and with the help of Dan Cox shuttling us around, we rented a car and went back and grabbed our belongings to get McKenzie back home to southern Utah safe and sound. As with my son Grant, when he got his first D1 collegiate base hit in February as a college baseball player that I posted, I had the strong prompting, that her angel mother Heidi again was present and guarding her life through the ordeal! Heidi and the Lord were working overtime that day and the protective shield for life, was out and about that Sunday morning! Thankfully everyone is okay, but please be patient, I am working on video that our staff picked me up with camera work, to allow me to see the event and my players in attendance. I will here shortly, before the week is out, get my coverage of the players out on this platform, to our dedicated followers and college coaches… Thank you Heidi for continuing to watch over us and the Lord for sparing life that day and getting everyone involved home safely!
