People don't know the detriment of removing the 5000 military members from Germany. Each base has a mini economy around it via support services from the locals. Taxi and bus services will slow down or stop. Food from local farmers or markets for the base eateries or stores will slow down or stop. Same with beverages. Local restaurants and markets will suffer horribly. Base sub contractors will become unemployed. That includes those that prefom the lawn and building maintenance, teachers, drivers, adm, club and eateries, small stores etc... anything a small town would have. And let's not forget that alot of these military members have brought over their spouses. That, on their part, will also be a significant loss of spending on the local economy. ALOT of military members rent homes and apartments. This income, for the locals, will also be lost. Car purchases and repairs, furniture, appliance and other big ticket items all lost for the local economy. So yes, this will hurt Germany alot in ways that people aren't even aware of.

US troops are not in Germany to protect Germany. They’re there because the US needs bases to conduct operations beyond the North American continent. If Trump withdraws them, he will harm the United States, not Germany. It’s absurd how many Americans fail to grasp this.
