As someone who has known Mick personally for years, i can honestly say he has never been anything but class to me and the people I have seen him interact with. He has done a huge amount of work for mental health charities that serve all aspects of our community and I have never heard say anything sectarian in my presence once. I understand some people won’t believe that because they don’t want to but he isn’t responsible for what people think he says or what people think he is, he’s only responsible for what he actually says and what he actually does. He has an identity that some people despise but he isn’t sectarian because he has that identity. Like every human being, he isn’t perfect but he’s a thoroughly decent human being. Coming from Belfast is a blessing and a curse, inevitably people will try to impose an identity on you, we need only look at the nonsense Rory McIlroy has had to put up with, why does it matter? If you’re unable to go to an event because the athlete competing is proud to be Irish or proud to be British because that offends you then the athlete isn’t the problem. I have always been proud to call Mick a friend.
