From the high hill of hindsight, Macca's Let It Be is a far superior song, musically, lyrically, emotionally, to John's Imagine. Come to think of it, it was better back then too.

@MickPuck Good point. It was much better than Lennon. I also wish he hadn't sung it. His great ballad voice (Hide Yer Love Away, Norwegian Wood) was gone, damged after years of rock shouting. But thanks. I've heard jazz musicians make interesting chord substitutions.

#ChurchOfRockAndRoll #104 There were 4 big bangs of rock: 1955 with Chuck, Little Richard + Elvis; The Beatles 62-3; the self-referential era starting in 69; and 76-77 the bang that tore it all down and built from the wreckage. This bloke was its harbinger #SexPistols #SteveJones

@Jeffreyhbaird The piano was played by the magnificent and incomparable Nicky Hopkins. Lennon couldn't play like that.

@MickPuck I really did not like Lennon's voice or piano playing on that song. Cover versions are much better, often jazz performers. Imagine is inferior to Revolution.

@MickPuck @Marc_Fagel Maybe you could do a covers album Mike - potentially great McCartney songs edited and re-structured, to realise their potential. But I guess you're rightly too busy harnessing your own creativity!

@Marc_Fagel @MickPuck Side two has good songs - 'Some People Never Know" 'Tomorrow' and 'Dear friend.' I think they could have made it on to a Beatles album - and sounded even better with the help of GM and the other Beatles.

@MickPuck I like Imagine for what it is...but then John undercuts its message by including How Do You Sleep? on the same album. No 'brotherhood of man' there

@MickPuck @SMTaylorauthor It was so frustratingly inconsistent. I adore Ram, and think London Town & Back to the Egg are underrated; but can barely listen to Wild Life or Red Rose. A brilliant songwriter in need of someone willing to say "maybe work on this a bit more, Paul."

@Marc_Fagel @MickPuck I do love Ram - it's fanastic. But there are already some signs of the lack of quality control that would blemish all Wings albums - probably the result of too much marijuana and not enough critical judgement (which the other Beatles provided.)

@MickPuck I said John was brilliant. He was always my "favourite". But one day I grew up and realised the truth. "Band on the Run" is a stand-out masterpiece, as good as anything the Beatles ever did. Not sure John managed such a solo effort.
