I am thrilled to share that my first publication is now live @PNASNews! I fell in love with science while 'hunting' DPO microbes on this project, and I'm so excited for everyone who reads it. Take a look if you like poop, microbial archaeology, or redox! pnas.org/content/118/11…

I was just asked to be on The National to discuss Roe and abortion...and then I found out it would be a panel with a "pro-life/anti-abortion" voice. I am livid and sent this reply. I couldn't care less if this means I will not be asked back to the CBC. It needed to be said.

Doing research to improve outcomes for pregnant women starts with the fundamental assumption that women deserve the basic human right of self determination. Without abortion, we don’t have that right. This isn’t just a “women’s” issue it is everyone’s tragedy today.

Molecules found in mucus can thwart fungal infection; harnessing their strength could help researchers develop new antifungal drugs. “Mucus displays an extensive small-molecule library with lots of virulence inhibitors,” Katharina Ribbeck says. mitsha.re/UkkQ50Jrtkf

I'm excited to share this new story on the inhibitory effect of mucins on Candida pathogenicity that came out today. This was a highly transdisciplinary collaboration led by Julie Takagi in the Ribbeck lab. Congratulations to all authors! nature.com/articles/s4158…

The more infectious form of the yeast Candida albicans is a long filament (left). Ribbeck Lab have shown that when the yeast is grown in the presence of mucin glycans, it remains in its round, harmless form (right) ow.ly/EVR050JqJn9 @nchembio

Hot off the press! Check out this #glycotime paper lead by the Ribbeck Lab's newly minted Dr. Julie Takagi. Synthetic O-linked glycans can dissect the mechanism behind specific glycan - microbe interactions. Cool to the core...1 🍄🔬

Katharina Ribbeck @MITdeptofBE and @DrRachelHevey @UniBasel and colleagues profiled glycans from mucosyl surfaces and identified O-mucin glycan motifs that suppress C. albicans virulence. Free to read link: rdcu.be/cO47E
