@Barnacules The surfaces feel smooth to the touch. It’s really hard to take pictures of matte grey stuff so we needed to turn up the lighting, making it look more grainy than irl.

@micronics3d Does the part have a noticeably grainy surface like sandpaper, or does it just look that way from the way the little plastic particles refract light?

This is the secret behind the super precise galvos that move the laser beam around. A flap connected to the motor shaft partially covers 2 pairs of photodiodes. An LED shines light from the top and depending on the rotor’s position, each pair receive a different amount of light.
