INDISCIPLINE has become a serious problem in India. It’s everywhere. Roads, offices, public spaces. Even schools.
Was discussing this yesterday night with an established sociologist... He came up with some very good reasoning. The roots of this erosion lie in our schools... Had to agree with him.
Studied in KVs across India. Not the top notch kind... but we were taught real life values. Offer seats to elderly people and women in trains/buses. Avoid littering. To keep even a small scrap of paper in our pocket or bag if no dustbin was nearby. Those lessons stayed with us. Shaped our character.
Another big influence came from NCC, Scouts & Guides. These activities nurtured leadership, service & self restraint. Unfortunately, such programs have disappeared from many schools today... esp in Bihar where NCC presence is the least.
Everything now revolves around academics, rankings & faaltu activities that do little for character building.
An IFS friend, posted in Indonesia, said that schools there teach students to greet foreigners (of any skin colour) with a polite Selamat/Hello/Namaste. Indonesian schools embed politeness and hospitality into everyday culture... even towards strangers. Today, Indonesia stands out as one of the world's most tourist friendly countries.
I suggested the same to then Principle Secretary of Education Department, Bihar. But who has the time to improve things in a Department that has an annual budget of over Rs 60,000 crores. Paisa kamayein ya samaaj theek karein.
Whoever becomes Bihar's new CM... prioritise schools. To build a better Bihar & a better nation - we must first transform its people.

@maheshkorbu09 Can I get Omega 3 capsules for vegetarian which doesn't contain fish oil. ? Any suggestion please
English

@microturnsmacro It's advisable to test Vit D3 once a year.
40–60 ng/ml is a strong, safe, functional range.
If deficient then carry.
Being Vegetarian I prefer to carry Omega 3 .
It's not necessary to supplement regularly but in between always better because of our limited food choices.

One reality of sea life nobody talks about.
We store food for months.
Frozen meat.
Frozen chicken.
Frozen fish.
Limited fresh vegetables after few days from port.
By mid-voyage, freshness reduces. Nutrition reduces.
I’ve felt it personally.
Energy dips.
Digestion feels heavy.
Cravings increase.
Immunity goes down.
It’s not always workload.
Sometimes it’s just nutritional gap.
Over the years, I started doing a few simple things:
• I carry basic supplements (Vitamin D, magnesium, omega-3, multivitamin).
• Whey protein onboard — easy way to maintain protein when menu is carb-heavy.
• I step out in real sunlight whenever possible.
• I prioritise eggs, dal, whatever fresh veg is available instead of extra rice.
• I drink more water than I think I need.
We can’t change ship storage systems.
But we can take responsibility for our own body.
Sea life already demands a lot from us.
The least we can do is fuel ourselves better.

@maheshkorbu09 Can we carry vitamin D3 tablets without any prescription onboard ship?
Is omega 3 capsules really helpful for seafarers?
Just curious
