Just something I created while randomly chatting with the llm's. It's a theory about population decline... Still kind of rough, but it may be worth sharing... would be cool to hear what anyone may think of it. ogremiddle.substack.com/p/abundance-ov…

@bitcoinpanda69 I finally bought my little bro a cool gift. Growing up poor I was never able to get him anything cool. The dude got married recently and I just bought him and his wife a really nice spendy ass bed. Feels good!

@JLucroy20 Training at a young age maximizes their potential. Lets them hit their ceiling. Genetics determine the ceiling…

As a former MLB hitter I’m 50/50 on this. Genetics play a role I do believe. Size, strength, speed, etc. Sometimes the Packers would come hit with us in Milwaukee. There were a couple guys like Aaron and another that I can’t remember his name that could hit decently. Then there were others, a couple of the wide receivers and tight ends, physical specimen guys, that had terrible swings and no hand eye, even though they were freak athletes. Now with that said, hitting is all hand eye coordination. You can’t hit at the highest level without elite hand eye. Just like you can’t box without it, be a Tour golfer, or even play hockey. Doesn’t matter what your genetics are or what you were born with or how big and strong you are. My personal belief is that elite hand eye, and athleticism in general, can be trained into a child from a young age, regardless of genetics. @bobbystroupe friend of mine and strength coach for Pat Maholms once told me this is possible if you start them at a young enough age. I’d be interested to hear opinions from any strength coaches or professionals in the field of elite athlete development to hear their thoughts on this concept.
Coachlee29@aarf29

I’m going to make a very controversial statement about hitting: 99.9% of #MLB hitters a born, not made. You are either born with the ability to be a major league hitter or you’re not. I firmly believe that.

The Neo Geo was a truly special system. It was marketed with the catchphrase that you could enjoy the arcade (MVS) 100% at home on the console (AES), and it really was almost identical. On the flip side, that also meant the home console was priced almost like arcade hardware, boasting both incredible performance and a hefty price tag. The Neo Geo was so powerful that, despite being released in 1990, it far surpassed systems that came later, like the Super Famicom, PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and Nintendo 64. It wasn’t until the era of the PlayStation 2 and Dreamcast that truly accurate ports became possible. Because of that, it’s still extremely popular among retro gamers even today.

@bitcoinpanda69 But we also live in a new era… a compression era. Things that took years to take hold now happens in weeks and get blow out. Anything new now has to be gate kept and “underground” for awhile to take any hold. If that even possible…

This app used to be a nexus where quirky people could share strange ideas and reach their entire following with every post This led to an exchange of new ideas, and made this site a cultural wellspring where culture began Now you have to play the ai post or list or contentious current cultural thing game to get seen which is making this app fundamentally worse because instead of allowing for new culture to rise up organically, it just acts as a conformity multiplier Used to be my favorite app because it was an app where weird freethinkers could have a real voice Now it's just as mid as reddit or insta tbh

Brandon Sanderson on why he would not finish George R.R. Martin's Game of Thrones even if he was asked: "I wouldn't say yes to finishing ASOIAF, if asked. (And I don't think they'd ask me.) I'd respectfully decline. I wouldn't be right for the job for many reasons. I wouldn't want to put in the content that the series has, and part of that is due to my religious faith, part of it is just who I am. I don't shy away from difficult material, but I prefer not to get explicit. Honestly, when I read it in George's work, I often just cringe. I don't think it fits in prose; I think it looks tacky. But that's almost 100% due to the my religious leanings. I realize that others don't read such scenes in the same way as I do. However, I'd suggest that this is actually a minor reason why I'd be a bad writer on this series, despite having enormous respect for GRRM and his talent as a storyteller. The primary reason has to do with fundamental optimism vs pessimism. I write darkness into my books, but it is darkness as contrast to light, and there is always a spark of hope. George's work seems fundamentally pessimistic--which I don't say as a slam. One of my favorite short stories is Harrison Bergeron, which is also fundamentally pessimistic. Saying George's work is pessimistic doesn't mean that HE is pessimistic, only that he creates a work of art that evokes emotion and discussion through pessimistic themes. As a comparison, I'm glad that Silver Age science fiction produced both Harrison Bergeron and Star Trek--but I'm Star Trek, not Harrison Bergeron. Calling me in to work on this piece would be like calling in Spielberg to finish a Tarantino film. (Not to imply I deserve to be ranked with either one.) Sure, he could do it, but wouldn't you want someone who themselves makes films with Tarantino-like themes? My work is also fundamentally different from George's in our use of magic. We've talked about books, and he points out (rightly) that I often use a heavily magical component in my stories--particularly the endings. This is because I'm writing science/magic hybrids, and the idea of magic as progress is fascinating to me. George, however, prefers his magic to be arcane, unknown, and dark--not a tool, but a force you can sometimes (with great danger) apply. This is a small issue, as I'm fond of books that use magic differently, I've just made a stylistic choice in how I do what I do." Do you think this still holds?

In the 1990s we experienced: Peak Michael Jordan. The rise of Tiger Woods. Gas at 99 cents a gallon. The golden age of Hip-Hop. The rise of The Rock & Steve Austin. The rise of Venus and Serena Williams. A streak of classic Disney animated films. Sitcoms: Seinfeld, Friends, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Star Trek: "The Next Generation" and "Deep Space 9" Peak SNES, and the arrival of Sony's first PlayStation. Marvel Comics sold hundreds of thousands of books a month. DC Comics' "The Death of Superman" became national news. Rise of young comics including Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. Elite work from established Hollywood stars, breakouts of new stars and filmmakers, classic blockbuster films (and late night TV hosts who promoted the business instead of lecturing audiences). Nostalgia for the 1990s is strong because excellence across multiple arenas in pop culture was obvious and undeniable, and this excellence enhanced our quality of life. Fame had to be earned, we could enjoy things together, and algorithms had yet to atomize and divide us. It was an amazing time to be alive.

@SandyofCthulhu In the book Omega Man is based off of the character figures out vampires are effected by the cross if it was previously a Christian. Interesting little twist.

It is perfectly fine to base stories on Christian mores, and Christian tales, and Bible stories. In fact, that's the best way to make a movie with any kind of Christian theme. Look at the Omega Man starring Charlton Heston in the 1970s. His blood was able to help or cure the people who were suffering from the plague of vampirism. A Christian concept. When Heston is on his last legs, he is literally laying in a cross-shaped image and it's not coincidence. Also it's not blasphemous. It's a homage.

Lot’s of people are responding negatively to my analysis that Project Hail Mary is a Christian movie. Especially Christians. Faith Based Entertainment has spoon fed Church Slop to Christians for so long they don’t know how to do critical analysis of stories anymore. They can’t comprehend that a story about a man named Grace aboard a ship called Hail Mary who sacrifices his life to save humanity is a Christian story. Because nobody said a sinner’s prayer at the end and there wasn’t an altar call in the third act. Twenty years of Church Movies broke your brain. Faith Based entertainment has absolutely dumbed down Evangelicals.
