The mind (or whatever you want to call it) is powerful. it has the well-documented ability to make you believe LITERALLY ANYTHING could be true. Never take that for granted.

@ThisAccountFell @kaybnuuy @datadriven_tdoc The places where affirming care is illegal are unfortunately not places that are free from the burden of rigid gender roles and male supremacy unfortunately, and this is an extremely crucial aspect of what im saying. Extremely extremely extremely crucial.

@kaybnuuy @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc It’s not conversion therapy, just regular therapy that doesn’t refer you to cosmetic treatments and opposite sex hormones. Being gay and loving whoever you want is beautiful and not a problem and doesn’t involve medical intervention

@middlechild666 @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc ppl can try conversion therapy if they want but we know it doesn't work. our entire lives are conversion therapy because cishet society doesn't want anybody to transition. the vitriol comes from trying to ban the only thing that's actually helped us, which does cause suicides yes

@ThisAccountFell @kaybnuuy @datadriven_tdoc My issue is that this tight grasp on the current treatment as the only right way prevents the possibility of other pathways arising. In fact, any attempt at a different path is met with vitriol and claims that it is increasing the trans suicide rate.

@ThisAccountFell @kaybnuuy @datadriven_tdoc I would also be interested in seeing the data on regret rates so I can look thru. Nose jobs are performed vastly more than affirming surgery. And nose jobs can also be considered gender affirming surgery. In fact most cosmetic procedures can.

@ThisAccountFell @kaybnuuy @datadriven_tdoc CRUCIALLY, previous treatments to “fix their brain” thought that a woman wanting to look/act “like a man” was a problem. It was still based on gender stereotypes. My stance is that any person of any sex can look and act however they want, medicalization isn’t necessary.

@kaybnuuy @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc I’m glad you feel better because of the treatment you received. Doctors have to weigh benefits vs drawback for everything they prescribe. The current framework is that the physiological harm of hrt is not as important as the psychological benefits. I disagree with that

@kaybnuuy @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc That’s false. Many people who were obsessed with their nose got a nose job and now they’re happy with it and don’t regret. I still think people shouldn’t get cosmetic nose jobs because the entire industry reinforces what “good” or “bad” features look like. Which is racist, etc.

@middlechild666 @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc im literally just explaining why the word dysphoria was even invented, it was to differentiate from ppl who ARE delusional and won't actually be helped with any changes to their body. a nose job can help a dysphoric person but not a dysmorphic one

@ThisAccountFell @kaybnuuy @datadriven_tdoc I hope everyone who’s ever gotten cosmetic procedures is happy with the results of them, so genuinely good for you. That doesn’t mean I can’t be critical of cosmetic procedures for reinforcing gender stereotypes in the name of psychologically soothing people

@kaybnuuy @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc You’re making stuff up I never said. I said im critical of the source, bias, and methodological aspects of information I take in as absolutely everyone should be. I don’t immediately trust anything. You can argue against it by not trying to create a straw man.

@middlechild666 @ThisAccountFell @datadriven_tdoc ...so you don't trust studies and you don't trust the testimony from those of us who say it saved us, but you immediately trust the testimony of anyone who says it harmed them? literally how am i even supposed to argue against this?
