At the 1998 FIFA World Cup, Henry was still very young and not yet a guaranteed starter. He featured mainly as an impact player off the bench in a team built around experience and structure, with France relying heavily on their midfield strength and defensive stability. Although he did not score in the tournament, his pace and movement added depth to the squad and helped stretch defences when introduced. His overall contribution was limited but useful in a supporting role. Performance rating: 6/10 — valuable squad presence in a title-winning team, but not a central figure. By UEFA Euro 2000, Henry had grown into a much more important attacking option. He started regularly and formed a strong partnership in France’s fluid forward line. This was arguably his most balanced tournament in terms of team contribution and attacking threat. He scored crucial goals, including in open play situations that reflected his improved composure and finishing. France’s attacking system allowed him more freedom, and he became one of the key players in their victorious campaign. Performance rating: 8.5/10 — influential, consistent, and a genuine attacking force in a championship-winning side. In the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, Henry was at his peak as a forward and carried much of France’s attacking responsibility. With several senior players absent or rotated, he became the focal point of the attack. He delivered a standout tournament, scoring decisive goals and even producing match-winning performances under pressure, including in extra-time situations. His leadership and clinical finishing were central to France lifting the trophy. Performance rating: 9/10 — dominant, decisive, and arguably the tournament’s standout performer.
