Before the Election Results craze takes over - just a quick reminder that India had nothing to celebrate this year. We slipped several notches to land at 157th out of 180 countries - in the World Press Freedom Index.
While there is a lot of frothing over the fact that India CANNOT be below Pakistan (153rd) - no one seems to ask why we are below almost all our neighbours...
Bhutan (150th) Nepal (87th) Sri Lanka (134th) and Bangladesh (152nd) ... or why we are below even the 100th rank.
Not only physical attacks and legal intimidation of journalists - now a system is being designed to silence digital news creators....and whoever wins the polls on the 4th of May - that reality is unlikely to change.

It's really very very strategic. We have been discussing in our forces for over 5 decades and for the first time the political will has emerged a few years back and is followed up by action .... As expected the chinese will fund few citizen groups to scuttle the whole thing. They have already sent their sponsored political agent a few days back ... Let's see how he will pitch

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.
