Together, these ‘paradoxical’ sources of methane may be one of the largest natural sources of methane to the atmosphere… but we know next to nothing about them. 6/6

We will be investigating this in lakes and in the ocean. This issue of aerobic ‘paradoxical’ methane production has become much more complicated and also more important with all of the potential sources… 5/6

Holy f**k, METHANE! The new NOAA global methane numbers just came out and blew away worst-case expectations, breaking 1900 ppb for the first time (the previous high was 1893 ppb). I'm going to do a little bit of analysis and post it soon, in the meantime, wow!

Using satellite imagery between 1998 & 2002, Professor @mikebeman and colleagues discovered algae blooms up to 220 square miles large that followed just days after periodic irrigations in Yaqui Valley, a storied breadbasket of Mexico. ucm.edu/0vinjX via @washingtonpost

Reference letter season is upon us and you may be wondering how to approach writing about the disabilities of students and colleagues who you are recommending. I’ve been on both sides of the desk and offer some suggestions and resources in this 🧵. 1/11 #AcademicAbleism

A new study by Professor @mikebeman shows that microorganisms have a surprisingly huge effect on life in the oceans, eating up the last bits of oxygen in certain areas and preventing larger marine life from surviving there. ucm.edu/09YE2F

New paper out in Nature Communications! It took sampling and experiments after Cat 4 Hurricane Bud to put it all together, but put it together we did... nature.com/articles/s4146…
