My new book, This Year’s Ghost, is officially out today! It was a 15-year journey to get to this day. I hope you’ll give it a look! bookshop.org/p/books/this-y…
Also. 2 nights of WrestleMania, complete with assorted wrestler meet and greets.
Plenty of other good travels, good people, good music, good books.
Onward to 2026. Happy new year wherever you are!
It may have been a rotten year on a global level, but, personally, I’ll always have a soft spot for 2025.
In particular, it’s a year when
2 books dropped, complete with an AWP reading, my first proper book launch, signings, and a reading in Corvallis.
Catching up on the last episodes of End of an Era whilst rereading Bret Hart’s memoir and the most vexing choice occurred to me. Would you rather:
a) be the kid to get the Hitman’s sunglasses at ringside or
b) get the “22” hat?
One last bit of creative non-fiction for 2025 out via Stickman Review. The piece reflects on the night a possible oil tycoon bought my family dinner, my late grandmother, visiting France, and a failed relationship from another lifetime. Full text online, link in the thread below.
I’ve been tearing up watching Xmas movies since Turkey Day, and this weekend I watched both the first 2 eps of #EndofanEra and #JohnCena’s last match.
By the time I finish #StrangerThings 5, Volume 3, I might just have too much pop culture emotional baggage to make it to 2026.
I was in my 20s when John Cena became the guy, and he was never my favorite.
But then I look back on:
The 2006 Edge feud
The 2008 Rumble return
The 2011 Punk feud
The 2013 Bryan feud
The 2015 Owens feud
The 2016 Styles feud
The 2020 Firefly Fun House match with Wyatt…

What a fantastic book launch for TWWNROOS last night! Special thanks to @misternagel for driving all the way to Fort Worth and to James and Josie at Recluse Books for hosting. Extra special thanks to my kids for doing robot voices with the karaoke machine
People talking about how Taylor Swift’s bonuses make her a great person vs. how carefully curated the scene is for documentary purposes vs. understanding the bonuses as tax write-offs…
What if I told you literally all of these things could simultaneously be true?
Did you know that the title story from This Year’s Ghost (@jacklegpress) was originally published with The Pinch out of the University of Memphis? I was delighted they afforded me some interview space to talk about the book, writing, and other miscellany. Link in the thread below
All right, because no asked, my #TaylorSwift top five:
1) All Too Well (I favor Sad Girl Autumn, but this pick encompasses all versions)
2) My Tears Ricochet
3) The Manuscript
4) Long Live
5) Dress
@miketchin What a story! Visited my old college for a reading just last month, and this articulates some of my own feelings returning to campus. Like inhabiting a dream.
I’m pleased to have some new flash fiction out in the world, “Summer Snow,” alongside some other great work in the new issue of Roadrunner Review.
