1/2. We’ve quite rightly paid respects to KK, this week, but maybe we should reflect a little on Terry Mac’s contribution. He’s too ill to post his own tribute but was a massive part of this club too. Played for us at Wembley against Liverpool. Then played alongside KK there.

Robert, spare us the pantomime. Gary Lineker did not drag the government to court so he could pay less tax. HMRC tried to reclassify his freelance work as employment under IR35 and hit him with a £4.9 million bill he did not owe. He took them on, won the case, and proved they got it wrong. That is not tax dodging. That is making the taxman stick to the rules instead of inventing them. Defending yourself against a false bill is completely different from choosing to support higher taxes. One is your right. The other is putting your money where your mouth is. You, on the other hand, are busy sneering at millionaires willing to pay more while the Met Police are investigating a £37,500 donation to your own Tory leadership campaign. The Electoral Commission referred it because part of the money allegedly came from a foreign source. You say the claims are false. Fine. The investigation is still running. So whose side are you really on? Not the ordinary voter in your constituency watching services get cut. Not the people who actually need the system to work. You talk tough about tax while your own campaign finances are under scrutiny, and you still found time to abandon the Tories for Reform after failing to lead them. You lecture others on hypocrisy while the police check your receipts. That takes a special kind of nerve.

Sunday August 23 at St James’ Park is going to be emotional. Newcastle United v Liverpool. Both sets of supports, both clubs, both sets of players and managements will unite to cherish the memory of the late, great Kevin Keegan. What incredible memories he gave them.

Even though he never had anything to do with my club, I have always felt a tremendous amount of admiration for Kevin Keegan. I’m 37 and one of my most vivid formative memories when falling in love with football was a VHS called “Ballistic ‘96”; it was a review of the 1995-96 Premier League season and its high-point was the 4-3 win for Liverpool over Newcastle at Anfield when Stan Collymore scored in stoppage time to win it. I must have watched the video 100s of times and Martin Tyler’s commentary of “Collymore closing in!” followed by “Kevin Keegan hangs his head, he’s devastated!” just after it is seared into my mind. He looked utterly emotionally drained from it and even as a kid, it made a huge impact on me. He wanted the sport to entertain people, to inspire you, that’s why I think, he’s so revered by so many. That was 30 odd years ago but Keegan’s whole persona, the passion he had for the game and for Newcastle United specifically has always stuck with me. I watch my little boy, who’s now 7, falling in love with the sport as I did at his age and wonder who his Kevin Keegan will be as he ventures into adulthood in the decades to come. RIP. 🤍

We are devastated to learn of the passing of Kevin Keegan, one of the most iconic, influential and deeply loved figures in our club’s history. Kevin was more than a legendary footballer and manager. He was the beating heart of Newcastle United for generations of supporters.
