@mariahgabriel64 @mil28544 It’s very difficult to know what to do, but we just came from Kaanapali to the airport last night and it was a good decision to go to the airport and figure it out from there. In Kaanapali there is no power, no cell service, no open restaurants or shops. Airport has all that.

My sister and her husband are on their honeymoon at a resort in Kaanapali -does anyone know anything about this area? Is it safe? Is there power? Desperately worried as we haven’t heard anything #MauiFires

They are safe now in Honolulu after taking themselves to the airport as the hotel was absolutely hopeless. They were flown out Thursday evening after getting in touch with their holiday agent. Hope everyone else I’ve been in touch with and hear from and know family are safe. 🙏

@mil28544 So glad to hear that! My sister & family are currently en route to the airport (OGG). They will be flying into Kona Airport on the Big Island. I uploaded a video as they traveled to the airport.

They have had a flight booked for them through the holiday company they booked with and are leaving for Honolulu at 7pm tonight hope your family get to safety soon.

@SavvyMom428 @mil28544 I was on the phone with @AlaskaAir last night getting my family out. Their staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Maybe easier to call for them and arrange flights as the airport is packed with long lines for each airline.

@mil28544 My parents are at the Kaanapali Beach club Resort and are staying there because airports are over crowded. They have emergency power for charging phones, water, and food. There is power on the other side of Kaanapali, however, is extremely crowded as well.

@mil28544 Thanks for the update. The one positive thing that gives me some sense of comfort is that Hawaii is a US state albeit not contiguous. If they have a flight booked, I would think they should be able to find a way to get to the airport.

@TWINTIERS2 Mum just had contact from Virgin (who she called) to say they have spoken to my sister in the last hour and they are going to be getting a flight tonight to Honalulu. Not 100% certain how they were getting to the airport-sounded like they had been told a route they could go

@mil28544 Not since yesterday. Hawaii is 6 hours behind EST, so I’m hopeful to hear something in the next few hours. Have you?

@mil28544 My sister is staying there with her family as well. As far as I know, the power went out about 24 hours ago. Very limited cell service & resources.

@SavvyMom428 @Alicia_Manzur I feel completely helpless too-the one or two texts we’ve had from my sister state the hotel are not helping at all-I know this is unprecedented but they should have back up generators or some form of communication to emergency services surely!

@Alicia_Manzur @mil28544 Heard from them. They are getting no information at the Westin! Didn’t even know about buses or leaving! No food, limited water. Only food they got today was popcorn from hotel staff. Terrible. They have no idea how they are getting out. I feel so helpless.

@namiv They have managed to get a text through to us saying they are safe but still at the hotel and trying to work out whether to stay or go to the airport-they say they’ve had no help as they’ve never dealt with fires like this before 🤪

@mil28544 @mil28544 did you hear of anything more recently? My brother and his wife are also there at this hotel and we haven’t heard anything either 🙏

@dolan_imho My brother and his wife are staying in the Hyatt Regency in Lahaina. Do you know if their hotel has been evacuated and where they have gone? 🙏🏼
