SOVIET UNION — Josef Stalin’s explicitly atheist communist regime killed an estimated 20 to 60 million people through gulags, forced famine, purges, and mass executions. The Soviet state actively persecuted and murdered Christians, destroyed churches, and made atheism state policy.
MAO’S CHINA — Mao Zedong’s atheist communist regime killed an estimated 45 to 80 million people through the Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution, forced labor, and mass executions. Christianity was brutally suppressed and Christians were imprisoned and executed.
NAZI GERMANY — Hitler’s regime killed an estimated 11 to 17 million people in the Holocaust and associated atrocities. Hitler explicitly rejected Christian morality calling it weak and sought to replace it with a pagan nationalist religion. The Nazi regime was theologically anti Christian at its core.
