@bylerapologist I also am pretty sure that em dashes are the proper way to convey an interjection. Especially because they can be used around quotes, like: “What I was trying to say before—” he took in a sharp breath—“never-mind.”

@bylerapologist The first—this—is standard in the US. In the UK, however, they use the en dash – slightly shorter but does the exact same role – and put spaces around it.
