@SPOT_ENIUS @irondavy Just one example from his image: when Apple shipped the QuickTime Player with a rotational volume control (for a mouse GUI!). It was taken at the time to be an atrocity, and was. Removing scroll bars in Mac OS "Lion" (not pictured) was an accessibility / UX disaster, too.

@andrewparker @irondavy It was roasted because its orientation wasn't detectable by grip and it rotated; when you grabbed it / used it, you'd often be surprised by how the cursor moved: a big ergonomic flaw. If you search "hockey puck mouse" you can still find angry threads! (The colors ruled though).

I really enjoyed a post by @joulee, occasioned by her convos with @henrymodis, on design in the LLM era. It was posted on a forbidden platform, so the link follows.

Apple obviously erred badly in crowing about vaporware, and it may mean something for their brand and operational style, but they also may have done as many of us have with LLMs: hyped themselves into forgetting about "the last mile."

when people praised the prose of that “creative writing” LLM, you saw the gap between those who pay attention to language and those who don’t; the latter may think it’s pedantic to do so, but @irondavy argues they could be cooked in the LLM era (below!!!)

It's not magic and we have no silver bullets for the problems of human nature. It's often gnarly work, involving painful constraints and trade-offs. Candidates should love something about the domain: supporting creatives, social systems, media, etc. Otherwise, it's no picnic!
