The large crowd in the stands carried a message far beyond football. The match was played today, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in the seventh and final round of the Elite League, the decisive stage of the Sudanese Premier League. It was a title-deciding derby. Al Merrikh entered the match with two possible outcomes in their favor, a win or a draw, due to their superior goal difference, while Al Hilal needed victory to retain the title.
