OpenAI just learned an expensive lesson about third-party risk. The recent data breach didn't originate from OpenAI's infrastructure. ChatGPT conversations weren't exposed. API keys stayed secure. Their own systems held up. Instead, the breach came through Mixpanel, an analytics vendor they trusted with customer data.
