This is the same thing a White woman, Sarah Page, did in 1921 when she accused Dick Rowland, a 19-year-old Black shoeshiner, of sexual assault, resulting in the Tulsa Race Massacre. In 1981, Anthony Broadwater was wrongfully convicted of raping author Alice Sebold and sentenced to 16 years in prison. He was denied parole five times for refusing to admit to a crime he didn't commit, while Sebold wrote a memoir about the experience that sold over a million copies. Released in 1998, he was forced to register as a sex offender, which devastated his job prospects and personal life. He and his wife never had children because he refused to bring them into the world carrying that stigma. What ultimately unraveled the conviction wasn't a lawyer or a campaign. It was a film. When a producer began adapting Sebold's memoir for the screen, he noticed the trial details in the script didn't add up. He quit the project and hired a private investigator. What they found exposed serious flaws in the original case, including a botched police lineup where Sebold initially picked the wrong man, and forensic hair analysis that has since been discredited by the US Department of Justice. In 2021, the conviction was overturned. The Onondaga County District Attorney stood in court and said simply: "This should never have happened." Broadwater's response? "I'm not bitter and I have no malice toward her!" In 2023, the state of New York settled with him for $5.5 million. No amount of money can give back 16 years, a family he never got to have, or the decades spent fighting to clear his name.

Chuck held a 10th degree black belt in Chun Kuk Do, a 9th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, an 8th degree black belt in Taekwondo, a 5th degree black belt in Karate, a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a black belt in Judo.
