SAFRA will also bridge defence and community; and host the inaugural SAFRA Community Defence & Resilience Festival in early 2027, as well as an NS-inspired Fitness Festival later this year.

SAFRA will expand its partnership with SAF for its NS experience camps, and introduce a 1-day NS for Everyone programme, and a 2-day Empowering NS for Women camp.

#SGBudget2026: SAFRA must become an organisation that empowers NSmen to build trust and community-wide support for defence.

MINDEF & the SAF will also expand civilian volunteer pathways by creating new opportunities across MINDEF, SAFRA, Defence Collective Singapore and other agencies. These are part of efforts to strengthen contributions from the wider community.

#SGBudget2026: The SAF Volunteer Corps will be enhanced to enable more people to serve in a wider range of roles. There will also be a new non-uniformed military volunteer scheme with new roles.

From this June, the SAF will also deploy NSmen with niche cyber expertise into Sectoral Cyber Defence Teams. These are part of initiatives to keep strengthening NS, and enable servicemen to contribute meaningfully.

#SGBudget2026: MINDEF and the SAF are partnering SkillsFuture Singapore to include NS certificates in the Careers & Skills Passport and boost employability.

New threats also present new opportunities for MINDEF and the SAF to find common ground with non-traditional partners, said Defence Minister Mr Chan Chun Sing. These are areas where we can work with like-minded states to mutually learn from experiences.

#SGBudget2026: MINDEF and the SAF’s connections of international partnerships have advanced Singapore’s and the SAF’s interests in crucial ways. This included opening of new training areas overseas, and access to advanced defence technologies.
