What can we expect from the Lithium Market in 2025? 6 Part 🧵 1/#Lithium demand to grow by 26% in 2025. •Demand to increase 26% (from 2024) to 1.46 million tonnes LCE in 2025. •The Chinese #EV market will remain the no.1 driver of lithium demand. --> The industry should receive a boost from Beijing's 🇨🇳 Stimulus program aswell as ongoing incentives for mass #EV adoption. •Outside the #EV market, demand for Energy Storage Systems (ESS) is set to "surge" growing 45% year-on-year & contributing to 13% of total lithium demand.

Welcome back online $CXO! In the poll I ran respondents were unsure about the decision to restart the Finniss Project. It was 50/50. Good to have you back and a step towards the #lithium industry maturing. "Competitive unit operating cost of A$762/t FOB."

Who has China imported the most amount of #lithium spodumene from this year? Australia or Africa. The answer is Africa. The answer may be surprising to some due to Zimbabwe's late February ban of #lithium concentrate. However, "African supply is expanding rapidly. China has been investing heavily across the continent in recent years, from Mali to Zimbabwe." @hjesanderson "Total African spodumene imports into China have now passed 700,000 tonnes - ahead of Australia's ~650,000 tonnes in the same period, according to data compiled by SMM." @hjesanderson

As the US-Iran war rages on China's 🇨🇳 battery makers have outperformed the global oil majors since the war began. Shares in CATL, BYD and Sungrow have risen 19%, 22% and 19% respectively. "That compares to share price increases of 15.2 per cent for BP, 8 per cent for Chevron, 8.3 per cent for Shell and 4.7 per cent for ExxonMobil." Despite the sea of Red ❌ for #llthium stocks listed on the #ASX Pilbara Minerals $PLS is showing its resilience. "Pilbara has emerged over the last 3,4,5 years as the purest play blue chip #lithium company in the world...its a well run company. The MD is looking out into the industry. He is looking at other alternatives"...i.e. #lithium sulphate intermediate. "It has got one of the largest #lithium assets in the world. It has the capacity and potential to grow substantially." - Matt Fernley. youtube.com/watch?v=R26gOk…

Brazil- A future rare-earths powerhouse? Brazil 🇧🇷 is set to gain big time in its supply agreements for #criticalminerals with Japan 🇯🇵. Firstly, to meet current and future supply Japan has inked a supply agreement with Australian 🇦🇺 producer, Lynas. Lynas has agreed to supply 7,200 metric tonnes annually of neodymium and praseodymium – key materials for electric vehicle motors – and to extend the contract period until 2038. "Another notable dimension of cooperation with Australia is that it could help Japan overcome China’s advantage in heavy rare earths. The two sides have now reached a shared understanding on securing stable supplies of heavy rare earth elements such as dysprosium and terbium." "If Australia represents the consolidation of an existing alternative supply chain, Brazil symbolises Japan’s forward-looking positioning for the next stage." This month the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security "(JOGMEC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian state of Goiás, further extending Japan’s rare earth strategy from established suppliers to promising new mining regions." "Brazil holds approximately 21 million metric tons of rare earth reserves, ranking second in the world after China." Japan is seeking to get involved early and strengthen cooperation in rare earth extraction and supply to reduce dependence on a single supply chain. "The Goiás state government hopes to use Japanese capital and technology to promote the development of higher value-added processing industries locally. This suggests that Japan’s objective is no longer simply to purchase rare earth raw materials from overseas, but to cultivate new processing capacity and industrial nodes outside China." The consequences of Japan’s move into Brazil go beyond bilateral cooperation. In February 2026, the US government 🇺🇸 also announced that it would invest more than US$500 million in Goiás. This indicates that Brazil is emerging as a key partner for both the United States and Japan in reducing dependence on Chinese rare earths. From this perspective, Brazil is no longer merely a potential resource country, but an increasingly important pivot in the geopolitical competition over critical minerals. #NdPr lowyinstitute.org/the-interprete…

Lynas 🇦🇺 Inks Supply and Price deal with the US 🇺🇸 following a similar deal struck last week with the Japanese 🇯🇵. The US Defence Department will buy light and heavy rare earth oxides from Lynas over four years with a floor price of $US110 ($154) per kilogram. The price floor is significantly higher then what Lynas has achieved for its neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) in the past two years. In 2025 the miner achieved an average price of $US74 per kg and in 2024 an average price of $US49 per kilogram. The US 🇺🇸and Japan 🇯🇵 deals “reinforced Lynas’s positioning as a core ex-China supplier to Western markets." afr.com/companies/mini…

The future is looking bright for LG Energy Solution 🇰🇷 as it seeks to pivot its products to the fast-growing energy storage market and "challenge Chinese 🇨🇳 rivals." "The Seoul-based company will begin mass production of a new model of its lithium-iron-phosphate [LFP] cell in 2027, featuring improved energy density and longer life cycles." Chief Technology Officer Kim Je-Young. "It marks the first time LG has disclosed plans for a significantly enhanced LFP model — an effort to reposition the chemistry from a low-cost, China-led option to a higher-value solution for energy storage systems." #Battery #ESS #LFP bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Lynas 🇦🇺 guarantees a price floor with the Japanese 🇯🇵 for Rare Earths. "Japan committed to take at least 5,000 tons a year of neodymium-praseodymium oxide until 2038, Lynas said in a statement [yesterday] The deal also includes a price floor of $110 a kilogram." The supply deal reflects intensifying global efforts to secure access to raw materials, after China used export controls as a trade weapon in 2025. #NdPr bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Thanks for the insight Amal. Now Argentina have 7 working lithium operations, 2025 was a key year when we went through 100 kton in LCE, first time in our history. Although we are in long distance with Chile lithium production, we expect to close the gap in the next few years due to an increase of operations getting on line.

Where in the world 🌏 did China get their #lithium spodumene from in 2025? "Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 is a key supplier to China and was set to make up 10% of global lithium supply [in 2026], according to China’s SMM, at 200,000 tonnes lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE)." @hjesanderson It will be interesting to see the advancements and developpment taking place in the brine sector coming out of Argentina 🇦🇷.

The year that was in #Lithium 2025. A China story 🇨🇳. From opening the year at Yuan 75,000/tonne to ending the year at Yuan 120,000/tonne. 2025 represented a 60% increase. "After opening...at Yuan 75,000/tonne, the lithium carbonate prices experienced six months of continuous decline, followed by a rebound from anti-involution [whatever that means 😜 ]...as well as supply disruptions from production halts at leading miners, ultimately sending the prices to above Yuan 120,000/t by year{s]-end." @MysteelGlobal
