New CalFresh work and community engagement requirements are set to take effect Monday, threatening food benefits for hundreds of thousands of people across Southern California and statewide.
Under the new requirements, recipients of CalFresh benefits must prove that they are working, participating in training, or completing volunteer or community-service hours each month.

@nettermike This was California going back to the 30's. The State Mental Health system provided skills for those that could and care for those that couldn't. Over time systematically the system was demonized, funding cut and then closed. Why? To pass that money to NGO's. We have to rebuild.

THIS IS SPENCER PRATTS SOLUTION TO THE HOMELESS DISASTER. IT SHOULD BE EVERYWHERE. FROM ABSURDISTAN TWO YEARS AGO.
"For instance, San Antonio, Texas solved its homeless problem. In 2006 the then mayor, Phil Hardberger, after calling on the business community for help, was approached by one of the richest men in the city, Bill Greehey, and together they marshalled the 184 partner organizations in the city that worked with the dispossessed, formerly operating in silos, and by 2009, built an encampment called Haven for Hope which holds 2000 homeless. There, the homeless, addicted, the mentally ill are given all the tools they need to climb down from addiction, rebuild their psyches and their lives. 90% graduate from their three year program and do not return to the streets."

@KTLA @ConwayShow The majority gets sold to labs and doesn't go to people in need. I get that blood has shelf life but I'd rather it go to people in need than an executive salary. And I'd rather not be lied to about how its used.

@Heavenly_Race_ @StaciBryant133 Don't you think a truly high IQ person would recognize this and adjust?
English

Once you hit about a 20-point IQ gap, communication starts to completely break down.
It's not that the lower IQ person is "stupid" (although that can often be the case) or the higher one is arrogant, it's that you're literally operating on different systems.
A 20 point difference (roughly 1.3 standard deviations) means:
Vocabulary and abstraction levels diverge sharply. What feels like crystal clear logic to one side sounds like vague, pretentious word salad to the other. Jokes land flat. Metaphors get taken literally. Complex cause and effect chains get simplified into "this good, that bad."
Different time horizons and pattern recognition. One person thinks in months or years and sees systems, the other is locked into days or immediate rewards. Trying to explain second order effects feels like speaking another language.
Also, processing speed and working memory gaps. The higher IQ person is already three steps ahead, getting impatient. The lower IQ person feels talked down to or overwhelmed.
Both walk away frustrated.
Both have wasted each others time.

We just bought a new home that has a bunch of beautiful windows. However, there is a window in my children's bathroom that is on the front of the house and very close to the shower. Looking for recommendations on how to keep the light but also give my children privacy while they're in the bathroom.
(The thing currently covering the bottom of the window is a mirror that's temporarily leaning against the house.)

@Christy4Change Hum well, looks to me like shes as fake as Erika. I cant imagine having to deal with grief in public, who knows how they do it. All I know is when my Dad died I cried so much my eyes almost swoll closed. Are her eyes puffy? Are they moist?

@AntonioSabatoJr Because we live in Pizarro world. Whatever they say the truth is usually the opposite.

This man, Richard James Verone, walked into a bank in North Carolina and robbed it of $1. He told teller he had a gun but was unarmed.
He then sat down in the lobby and waited for police to arrive.
He explains in this interview why he did it. He had no job and no health insurance.
He was sentenced to 3 years in 2011 but it was reduced to 12 months
He got the needed treatment while incarcerated.

A bike lane has never had a traffic jam.
Not once. Not ever.
Cities keep building more roads while the bike lanes next to them move just as many people... in a smaller space, with less cost, and zero gridlock.

Guy rolls up on a scooter to defend a bike thief from getting caught. "Stop! You don't need to do this!" Thief gets up. Tries to steal his scooter. Reality is the fastest teacher alive.

🇺🇸 A contractor drilling fiber optic cable in East Los Angeles punched through a petroleum pipeline at 3 a.m. and sent 2,400 gallons of oil flooding into the streets and straight into the LA River.
Two rupture points. It took 30 minutes to shut the valve.
The fire department’s response? "It tends to happen, unfortunately."
That’s the part worth sitting with. Officials aren’t treating this as a crisis, just routine.
California has thousands of miles of aging underground pipelines, and contractors regularly work near them with outdated or incomplete maps.
Until that changes, "it’s an accident, we understand" is gonna keep being the explanation.

🚨🇺🇸 Federal agents have taken over protest enforcement in Los Angeles. Friday, DHS made a targeted arrest of a protester allegedly throwing rocks, then pulled back to the federal building. Not surprisingly, LAPD is no longer on scene. DHS is now the only law enforcement making arrests. It's straight out of the progressive liberal playbook: It's not my problem, you deal with it...but when I do have a problem, you'd better take care of it and pay for it! @anthonycabassa
