an under-explored characteristic of simon in fanfics and yr analysis is how much he desires to see more of the world and to escape small town life. he had travel posters of cities around the world as his bedroom decor

@saknarhurduror really thought much about their future yet and still want to believe that everything will always be the same. simon is a little bit more "mature" in that sense compared to them imo

@saknarhurduror maybe "mad" was the wrong word, but i do feel like they're a little bit weirded out by what simon says, like they never even considered moving out of bjärstad and can't understand why simon would want to. they're also only 16 tho so i think it's normal that they haven't -

@OmarsAlien forever thing. at the same time tho i do feel bad for simon in that scene because he's already treated differently at school, so to feel like not even your actual friends understand you and your ambitions must be a little disheartening

@minwilles i do really feel bad for simon in this scene bc it is scary and lonely knowing your dreams are different from your friends and that they don’t really understand it and you’d be following your dreams without them there to share the experience with you. it’s an underrated sad scene

@OmarsAlien i remember him saying "i don't want to stay in bjärstad forever" but i could definitely be wrong, especially because i don't speak swedish and the translations are not always accurate 😭

@minwilles I think it was they way he phrased it. He didn’t say ”I don’t want to be stuck here”. He worded it as a general statement (”man” in Swedish) if I remember it correctly. So they probably interpreted it as if he felt they had too low ambitions if they wanted to stay

@lisanotambjorn yes exactly, like they had probably only talked about their future as a very far away thing, but simon talking about actively doing things (like getting good grades at school) to ensure he can have the future he wants probably was what made everything feel more real to them

@minwilles i got the impression that ayub and rosh understood simon’s desire to leave bjärstad as another way of him leaving them which is irrational but as u already said they’re 16 yo so i get why they’d think that

@LemonPSMuffin bigger dreams, which should not be the case. but then again, they're all only 16 and it's very fair that they're scared of the future and the changes it might bring, so their reactions are all very understandable and relatable

@minwilles and i get that they might be scared of losing a friend for whatever reason if he ever moves somewhere which is absolutely valid too because it’s life and it happens but there are definitely better ways to go about it :(

@lisanotambjorn yes of course, like there's nothing wrong with them seeing themselves staying in bjärstad if that's what they want, but why make your friend feel bad for wanting different things?? but also they're 16 so i get that the future may be scary to think about so there's also that 😭
