@ArturGalata This kind of behavior should be an instant fine. Stamp it on their passport and they can pay an imbecile nuisance fee as they exit. So sick of this behavior.

To foreigners visiting Japan: You must realize how dangerous the behavior in this video is. Children are mimicking what adults are doing. What will you do if they get hurt? Don't you understand that this could stop the trains and cause trouble for countless passengers? Please, never do this.

I was fired from WhatsApp this morning. I was responsible for adding the 'Delete for me' button — so when you scramble to delete a picture you sent to the wrong group, you end up making sure everyone else gets to enjoy it forever

@RealKidPoker The UAE has price controls on about a dozen "essential" items including staple foods and household items. The policy is regularly reevaluated and narrow in scope. The majority of the population in the UAE isn't well off and they benefit greatly from this policy.

Can any of you expert economists point me to a country where price controls on groceries worked out and benefitted the people? I know it’s been tried in the Soviet Union, Argentina, and Venezuela, which ended in disaster, but is there any evidence of it being successful?

@PaprikaGirl_JP In the more inaka areas, they go a step further and put newspaper on the floor directly underneath the nest to catch the droppings. I always know there's a nest above when I see the newspapers taped on the ground.

I will never get tired of passing through Japanese train stations and seeing the swallows nesting there in the summer. It’s sweet how many stations put out water and seed for the birds, and signs to notify passengers of their presence.

@mizunocaitlin Oh, I understand. Some things should remain sacred. Hand-drawn hanamarus definitely in that category.

@zunamondin @JeremiahDJohns @hankgreen Interestingly, I don't think carbon footprint is even in the top 3 reasons why they don't drive as much as the US. Oftentimes it's simply inconvenient to drive/park rather than to walk or take public transport.

The "electric cars are not it, trains are the way" crowd is great...I love it. But I also see a smattering of "Fuck Joe Biden" in it. Like, "Why is the president pushing for electric cars and not trains?!?!" and, I dunno, y'all. Have you considered the 100 trillion dollars of car-necessary infrastructure we have built in the US? We built the ideology into every dollar we spent for the last 100 years. It's built into the landscape, it's built into people's brains. "You shouldn't have a car" is a good position to have if you want to get in fights on Twitter with the 90% of American adults who cannot imagine life without a car. That's not their fault, we built the cities this way, and they aren't going to get unbuilt. We need to get off fossil fuels /now/. If your first step is "we must convince America to abandon suburbs... through force if necessary" the outcomes will be worse.

@JeremiahDJohns @hankgreen A big problem in the US is overconsumption. The convenience-first mentality needs to change. Yes Japanese people own cars. But they don't drive every day, everywhere. It's not the default when deciding how to get somewhere. It's often the 3rd choice after walking / public transp.

@hankgreen Japan, one of the most train-centric countries in the world, with sparkling bullet trains and great public transit in all major cities... still has a large majority of households that own a car. Cars are not ever going away, even if you build dense cities with great trains.

@aishiterutokyo Linesman had a nightmare. Iran multiple foul throws all game. Seems insignificant but their long throw ins are clearly part of their offensive strategy. That final foul throw starts the lead up to the play that ends in a penalty being awarded. 🤡

@ChadAHolloway There are lots of closed field events in poker. Why don't we see non-seniors enter senior events or non-dealers in dealers-only events? Or how about non-veterans in veterans-only events? Why do some men insist on taking this stance only when it comes to women's events? Pathetic.

Even if men are allowed to play ladies events, they shouldn’t. Just like someone like me - a 40 y.o. single, childless man - could legally go solo to watch little league softball games or to an elementary school play but don’t. FFS, some things you just don’t do even if allowed.

@yo_samuteki I think your take lacks some nuance. 外人is simplified from 外国人which literally means "person from outside [our] country." So from a 1st person POV, a Japanese person may use 外国人to refer to foreigners (aka non-Japanese) whether you are saying it in Japan or not.
