@JuviCinefilo He is a character in a movie that exists at the whim of its writers. I love both Thomas and Arthur, but as we all knew Peaky is not a fairy tale with a happy ending.

Barry Keoghan says the online “abuse” about his appearance has gotten so bad that he no longer wants to “go outside”: "There's a lot of abuse of how I look, and it's kind of past the point of — you know, everyone goes through that… but it's made me shy away. It's made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside." variety.com/2026/film/news…

“Tom, you are not ready for this world.” Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (🌟🌟🌟🌟) is further affirmation that Cillian Murphy isn’t just one of the best actors alive, he’s one of the best actors I’ve ever seen. Meet me in my mentions. Come to my comments. Call me hyperbolic. I challenge anyone to watch a film like the new Peaky Blinders & then try to suggest that Murphy isn’t as good as it gets when it comes to this art form. Flanked by world class actors like Rebecca Ferguson, Stephen Graham, Tim Roth & Barry Keoghan, Murphy’s reprisal of Tommy Shelby is a display of acting excellence. It always has been & always will be an uphill battle creating a feature film based off a television series. The biggest challenge is defining the film’s audience: can those who haven’t seen Peaky Blinders the show still enjoy Peaky Blinders the movie? The answer here is resoundingly yes. One of this film’s strengths, and something which is rarely pulled off, is that it will appeal to those who love the show & those who’ve never seen a single episode. That’s a difficult proposition, but it absolutely works in this scenario. With that said, it would obviously benefit you to watch the show before seeing this movie. Tommy Shelby hasn’t quite yet reached the emeritus stage of his life, but he’s salt & peppered and slowly approaching old age. He lives alone in a secluded house haunted by spirits of the past, like his daughter or his brother Arthur. We reconnect with Shelby as WW2 is unfolding, where men like John Beckett (Tim Roth) are flooding the European economy with counterfeit money so as to help the Nazis win the war. Beckett manipulates low-level gangsters like Tommy’s estranged son Erasums (Barry Keoghan), which eventually pulls Tommy back into the game he left behind. I’m always partial to films about the old lone ranger who once lived a badass life but now put everything behind him, or so he thought. There’s not a lot that separates Tommy Shelby in this film from, say for example, Clint Eastwood’s William Munny in Unforgiven. Once the fastest draw in the west, a formerly dangerous, well-connected man, now living off booze & bad memories, but still capable of bringing God’s wrath to this Earth, or so we think. I personally love this sort of revenge-bound storyline. It works exceptionally well here when you consider how well-developed Roth’s Beckett is & the use of the Nazi subplot: we hate Tommy’s enemies as much as he does. But there’s an added dimension to the story here which makes this more than just about revenge. That’s Tommy reconnecting with Erasmus, his son. That broken father-son relationship makes this story more interesting. Hell, Tommy’s entire family past & the way he betrayed those he loved helps make this more than just a story about a man returning to his evil ways because someone pissed him off. There’s a reconciliation component to this story that beefs up the plot & gives Tommy way more meat on the bone. All of which leads to a thunderous last hour that’s filled with guns, blood & trademark Peaky Blinders violence. And that’s where Cillian Murphy shines. Part of why I’ve always loved Murphy as Shelby is because Peaky Blinders is an unapologetically evil/nasty/violent piece of art. It sort of totally goes against Murphy personally- he seems nothing like Shelby in real life. But when Murphy puts the hat back on…when the fog swirls behind him and he marches in that iconic, unforgettable Tommy Shelby walk, the hair on the back of your neck goes straight up. Goosebumps subsume you. You’re reminded why this is one of the all-time great television characters & performances. Cillian’s work as Tommy Shelby deserves to be mentioned with Bryan Cranston’s as Walt White & the late, great James Gandolfini’s as Tony “never had the makings of a varsity athlete” Soprano. The fact Murphy can walk back into Shelby’s shoes so effortlessly with such intensity & such emotional range amazes me. I really wish this movie released in theaters. It pains me I had to watch this at home. Seeing this in IMAX would’ve been stunning. But regardless, The Immortal Man honestly exceeded my expectations.
