The deal is basically built around Canada kicking the equivalent of half of toll operating profit to a U.S.-controlled regional development fund for 15 years, per officials. The underlying Canada-Michigan deal doesn’t change, we’re told. Story with @btaplatt and @DavidWelch47.

Trump just showed Canada exactly what leverage looks like. Canada financed the Gordie Howe Bridge. The U.S. refused to pay, delayed the opening, then walked away with 50% of toll revenue and influence over future toll increases. We paid for the asset. America negotiated the upside. Canada lost the deal.

Sky News’ treatment of Nigel Farage’s family was appalling and a clear breach of the Broadcasting Code. Read Lee Anderson’s letter to the Chief Executive of OfCom. 👇

Trump: “I just finished a perfect physical at Walter Reed, I do it every six months, and I requested another Cognitive Test, the only President to do so, three times, and I aced them all — Got every question right. Few people in Washington, D.C., could do so, including Maggot and her flunky associate, Jonathan Swan. I would be willing to bet they couldn’t get 50% of the questions right.”

Here are some of the details on what Canada had to give up to open the Gordie Howe Bridge, as per a Canadian government source. For the first 15 years, Canada gets 50% of toll profits and the other 50% goes into a regional "economic development fund." What that fund does and who runs, is not clear Under the previous agreement, Canada was to receive 100% of toll profit until they were made whole on the $6.4B they spent to build the bridge, which Michigan/the US contributed $0. The agreement also says it could be 50+ years before Canada was whole, that timeline is now longer. The Americans will have to agree if Canada wants to increase the bridge tolls by more than 10%, or lower them below compared regional averages. That clause helps out the owners of the Ambassador Bridge, the Maroun family, who have donated to the Trump administration and previously to US ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra, to try and stop the new bridge from opening #cdnpoli

Good morning Ottawa. Bonjour Ottawa.
