I did warn the government of Nigeria that it’s easy to announce tax for poor citizens, but the problem is how to enforce it. They will keep extending the date, no matter how much they pay your twitter financial experts to ‘educate’ you on the need to file returns.
The whole idea of this new tax regime was to widen the net so those in the informal sector (e.g artisans, laborers, vulcanizers etc) can pay. And I asked how do you keep track of what is supposed to be their taxable income? No one gave a reasonable explanation.
Even the ones earning digitally, there’s a concept of tax withholding if you earn in certain countries. Nigeria doesn’t have tax treaty for possible waivers. Double taxation will frustrate you. At the end of the day, you people and government will do WWE until they probably scrap this idea.
Good luck everyone.
