I always love any excuse to be at the @metmuseum — even more when I’m surrounded by such inspiring women from across our city.
Honored to be recognized this Women’s History Month, and proud to lead an @NYCCouncil committed to empowering women in every borough.

@ReynosoBrooklyn So sorry to hear of his passing. Beautifully said.

I buried my father yesterday. My dad was joy, pure and simple. I try to live by his example. Spreading love isn't just a lyric or slogan; it's a reminder of the responsibility we have to help lift each other, always. It didn't matter what room my father walked into, he would bring light into darkness. I don't think it was intentional; it's just who he was at his core. I don't want to be sad, because I want to celebrate him, but he's going to have to wait for that.
I'm in his small country town in the Dominican Republic, where hundreds of people have come to pay respects. All with stories of his jokes and how he could never take anything seriously. Everyone fighting about who he was closest to, who loved him most.Everyone sad, but there were ripples of laughter all throughout, because all the memories were rooted in happiness and his foolishness.
My father wasn't without struggle. He wasn't without feelings of sadness or anxiety. But in his stubborn way he masked it, always taught to suppress his emotions by culture and tradition. A lot of folks will never know the weight people carry. I just hope that his wasn't too heavy and that through time I helped lessen the load. Paying him back for the life he gave me, the peace he kept for me.
Gracias papi, te amo.
Tu hijo.

For the next 4 days, @haymarketbooks is offering ~*free*~ ebook versions of titles that explore Palestine’s history & struggle for justice on their website. I’m seeing a lot of misinformation, false statements, and inflammatory language around what’s going on right now. READ.
