We just recently started training Polar to stay home alone, but he has developed sever separation anxiety. Again, I was with him nearly 24/7 since his diagnosis.

For months I avoided leaving his side, thinking any minute could be his last and we went through a ton of those moments as he fought through. I’m happy that he’s showing no signs of distress. He is eating and sleeping just fine. And he’s able to potty normally which is a huge win

Mid Mar he was at the vet for 8-9 hrs a day for 4 days receiving IV treatments to flush out the toxins build up. We didn’t know if his kidneys would work on his own thereafter but thankfully he’s been doing fine since the treatment.

We were advised that we should avoid carbs as it “feeds the cancer.” By Feb he transitioned to a no carb diet and by the beginning of Mar, his kidney levels began to elevate. There was one week where he absolutely refused to eat and loss a ton of weight.

We began extensive research, joining Facebook groups, posting on Reddit and visiting specialists, to determine how best to navigate this journey. We changed his diet (many times) and gave him natural supplements while keeping a close eye on any minor changes to his demeanor.

In January Polar was diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) and we were filled with emotions. We weighed out the pros and cons of our options and due to his age and other health issues (congested heart failure, collapsing trachea, and leaky gut) we opted out of chemo.
